He wanted to retire last year but the rumors were hurting recruiting. Now SC gets a head start on the coaching search as more power 5 teams will be looking at seasons end, and get a coach in place by the bowl season so recruits know who they are going to play for.
It's really genius and the best way they could have handled it.

Didnt seem to harm urban meyer's career. He did wait until the end of the season TWICE to quit on his players and contract. I guess that makes it ok to QUIT as a football coach, even tho u preach to never do this to your players on a daily basis. Which is worse a 70 yr old man quitting under pressure with a crappy team or a guy in his prime inventing diseases to QUIT.
