Despite the sport’s continued popularity, college football’s gameday experience has become watered down over the past decade, and fans — particularly students — aren’t going to games as much as they used to. Even powerhouses like Georgia and Alabama have struggled to get students to games. The Wall Street Journal reports that 39 percent of student seats at Georgia went unused between 2009 and 2012, while 32 percent of student seats at Alabama went unused in that same timeframe, when the Crimson Tide won three national titles.

TV and the schools blind grab for money now will kill it all in a decade or 2, but by then, it will be too late.
