I like Malbec and cab.
For boxes, Bota Box is legit and you get four bottles for $19.

The old man and woman are napa valley fiends and leave some good wine at the starkville house, but I've found the cheap stuff holds it own compared to the expensive bottles. I'll have to try the bota box

tGOAT cheap stuff is Three Buck Chuck from Trader Joe's and the story behind it is even better. :lol;
Back ten or fifteen years ago I used to have to travel to Seattle once or twice a month. Back then it was "two buck chuck" and before checked baggage was extra I used to take a carry on, which was all I really needed, plus an empty checked back to fill up with two buck chuck to bring back with me. It was then like Coors used to be when I was a young man ... couldn't find it east of the Mississippi.
Two Buck ... or rather Three Buck Chuck is excellent though. It's probably still my wife's favorite cheapo.
Now, we lived in Italy back in the day and my wife still works for a large multinational Italian company so we occasionally will have some Italians over for dinner when they are in town and we'll serve them thick steaks and cheap Merlots and they always love it.
Italians don't drink that expensive stuff either, not over there ... it's the French who are the wine snobs and people with not enough money who want to look like they have more than they do. Most of them have neither the palate or the nose to even know wtf they are drinking. They rely on price and what the wine store salesman tells them to buy in order to impress.
If you like the Yellowtail, try the Bota Box and the Founders Oak and let me know what you think. Nothing against the Aussies, they make good inexpensive wines.

I am not sophisticated enough for fancy wines. I only like the sweet stuff.
Watching SEC Media Days today really has me craving football season. I don't know how I am going to make it.

Recently read an article where "wine experts" can't tell for shite between good wine and bad wine
Give me just about any cab, and I'm a happy man
Well, almost any wine connoisseur is able to differentiate between "good and bad" but I think perhaps you read an article suggesting "expensive vs inexpensive" maybe?
A wine snob will claim that any $20 bottle is better than say a $10 bottle ... twice as good even. That's definitely not the case.
Now, I promise I can tell you the blindfolded difference between, let's say, a Masseto Merlot and a Bota Box Merlot ... but for the average Joe there would not be much of a difference between a Mt. Brave Merlot (depending on the vintage) and the Bota Box even though the Mt. Brave is five or six times as much.
Most casual wine drinkers, especially Merlot drinkers, are buying in the "under $25" range and at that range there are some real steals at $10-$15.

Bota Box Merlot and I highly recommend it
That sounds very familiar. I can't remember where I had it though.

We had some wine snobs who used to stop by the Cockaboose sometimes ... always complained that we didn't have high dollar wine for them to drink.
Almost pissed me off where I was about to tell my wife to give them the ax on the free pass.
Anyways, one day before the Clemson game, (they are Clemson fans), we knew they were coming and I had recently uncorked and guzzled a couple of bottles of Emmolo out of Napa Valley. So I took the empties and filled them with Bota and halfway corked them and took them in the basket to the game ... served them up to those fricking snobby tatersheads and they raved and raved about how good it was.
It was the same fricking wine they had complained about when they came by for the UNC game earlier in the year.
IMHO you cannot beat Bota for the price.
We pay $16.99 for a 3 liter box I think it is ... plus they give us a nickle per gallon towards our BiloBonus Points so that adds up to another dollar so we're basically getting the Bota for $15.99 or roughly $3.99 per 750 ML bottle.

Rouses on Tchoup changed its hours up. I felt betrayed. Started going to the Mid City Rouses - which is actually closer to my house.
How's your summer going bro?

My cheap go-to wine is Rex Goliath Merlot, can't beat it for $5.
