"Balanced attack" is a synonym of "Balanced offense". It's not a straw man.
By the way, are you still contending that a balanced offense refers to yardage gained instead of plays run?
Dude, right above that you quoted me saying I wasn't contending that and that I didn't care about the distinction. I give zero fricks that it's some media or message board convention that they're synonyms, in the context of my point it showed Ohio State can convert third downs through the air.
I guess if you bait me into arguing a viewpoint I never held then it's not a straw man.

Why did you post about a distinction when the poster you quoted was not making a distinction?
Look, this is simple. I and other Aggies have been arguing that a "balanced offense" or "unbalanced offense" is determined by play calls, not play results. This is the convention that the REST OF THE FOOTBALL WORLD follows. If we can't agree on terminology, the basic definitions of fundamental concepts of the sport, then there's no way to communicate.

sorry. Its Thursday, and I'm off work. When I'm off work on a Thursday I start drinking at 530. This thread doesn't get to interrupt that.

Chavis has a good system (which he abandons late in games)
But he needs the players.
Look at LSU earlier this year without an Great to Elite MLB, we sucked.
Gauged by Wisconsin, Miss St, and Auburn. the defense was lacking in 2013 as well. Need a great MLB.
I have never even seen potential from your Linebackers.

Our best linebacker who was injured in the opening game last year is back and healthy.
Alaka is not a true freshman anymore and now has experience (33 tackles last year)
We will be fine.

Like a lot of teams, injuries or lack thereof will impact results.

You show that gif over and over again as evidence that Chavis will suck because he was at A&M, whereas that gif shows EVERYTHING WRONG WITH MARK SNYDER as a Defensive Coordinator.
2 SENIOR LINEBACKERS (#16 Donnie Baggs and #43 Justin Bass) completely out of position.
Baggs is way too far outside from the SAM position and Bass, a SENIOR, is playing the wrong gap (the one Baggs was supposed to have), resulting in a wide open hole up the middle which forces TRUE FRESHMAN ALAKA (#42) to break from his assignment to try to catch up to Fournette as he's running over Howard Matthews, who ended his A&M career the same way it started, by getting trucked (he got famously trucked by James Franklin in 2011)
Bass and Baggs were in the same system for three years and got progressively worse over time. Bass would have never seen the field if not for A.J. Hilliard's injury during the South Carolina game

Everything wrong with Chavis as defensive coordinator:

If that were a Mark Snyder defense, the score would be 21-14 New Mexico State at that point in the game.
Not only that, but your defense allowed 279 yards of total offense in that game, 78 of them, and NMSU's only score coming on that one play.

But.. But.. But... Aggies have best offense in SEC... how would they only score 14?
Just admit that every defensive coordinator gives up plays. LSU's defense was always burned by mobile QBs and inside runs when he was here. How about those Chavis coached linebackers
I recommend you watch the Auburn, Moo St., and Florida games from last year too just to get a feel on LSU's #1 defense. And don't say that those games were bad because LSU's offense was bad. You Aggies have already proven that defense has no correlation with offensive style
ETA: in fact, I challenge you to watch them and report back to the SEC rant with your findings.

LSU's offensive drives in the first half:
Mississippi State:
3 and out (7 yards)
3 and out (-3 yards)
9 plays, turnover on downs (62 yards)
9 plays, punt (20 yards)
8 plays, punt (32 yards)
8 plays, field goal (38 yards)
It took your offense 40 plays to score 3 points. That will kill any defense. HOWEVER, any team with a decent offense is still in the game down 17-3...not LSU.
Auburn game 1st half:
3 and out (5 yards)
3 and out (8 yards)
3 and out (2 yards)
5 plays TD (75 yards)
3 and out (6 yards)
3 and out (8 yards)
7 plays, punt (20 yards)
8 plays, end of half (50 yards)
35 plays for a whopping 174 yards (125 on 2 drives). High quality awffense deahh
Florida scored two of their touchdowns on a punt return and a 9 yard scoring drive set up by a long punt return.

Nah, offense has no coorelation. It doesn't matter if we scored 0 or 100, defense is separate. Check out the Music City Bowl too. And while you're at it, throw in Georgia 2013 and Ole Miss 2013.
And if we're comparing offenses, why didn't A&M out score all of their opponents? Why couldn't A&M score a single point against Alabama? Even LSU scored on Bama.

You really want to bring up a game in which you only scored 28 on a Notre Dame defense that was giving up over 29/game?
Before the bowl, Notre Dame was allowing 29.3 points per game. You LOWERED their average by a tenth.

I also don't think Chavis is who he used to be as a DC and maybe that all changes now that he's at a new place? When he first got to LSU the man was a great DC with passion and coached that into his players but the last 3 years he just wasn't the same coach. That could be for many many reasons point is it was time to part ways and LSU will be better off without him at this point. Just take a look at the talent we have coming in this year in the front seven and compare that to previous years with Chavis. I mean we are very much in it for some of the best recruits at Linebacker and DL where we probably wouldn't with Chavis. The man didn't go after the best of the best he went after easy targets basically others were passing on especially at middle linbacker. Beckwith was probably his highest rated Mike and it took him 2 years to start over a guy that just shouldn't have started over Beckwith period. Beckwith was finally inserted and the D picked up their game. Everyone was just tired of him and then how he treated LSU and Les Miles at the end was cowardly if you ask me. So good luck with the old chief he's Tiger Bait now. Believe what you wish about Chavis but the season will soon be here and results will show LSU is better off without him.
