In March we'll start concentrating on the catfish down there (these are all coming from our fish camp at Santee-Cooper, including the pigs). I'm hoping to put up a few hundred pounds of catfish this spring. I lost one of my big meat freezers last summer while we were in Honolulu. It wasn't pretty when we returned. So I'm having to restock for emergencies.

Scrooster where do you live? Are you anywhere near the low country? (ladys island area)

I'm on Lake Murray for a short time more ... we just recently sold our house here after twenty years. My wife and I will be moving out to our farm full time.

But we've got 54 acres at the upper lake at Santee near the diversion canal which we call "fish camp" and have for years. When I bought it back in the early 90s (after Hugo and after we sold our house on the IOP), it wasn't expensive. I leased it to a movie company when they were making a movie about The Hunley in the 90s. Since then it's just been our fish camp. I put a couple of connexes down there and we camp out, I had a well drilled, we installed a shower and bathroom ... it's off limits to the women, it's just for the men. We've had some great times down there over the years.

We've got a condo at Litchfield but other than fish camp on Santee that's all the lowcountry I do anymore these days. We're about to sell our condo in Honolulu - it's up for sale. So I am planning on spending a lot of time at fish camp in coming years. Probably going to build a cabin and pole building out there or something. Meeting with the gravel people to have them bring in riff raff and #57 stone this weekend. It's going to be my getaway place soon ... I could, conceivably, live off the land at that place with the wild pigs and turkey and deer down there to go along with the fish. I'm going totally solar down there except for a back up small generator.

Anyways ... I could talk about that stuff all day. I love it down there. Some serious recruiting territory too right there in Cross and Berkeley County. My old buddy Jerry Brown swears some of the best athletes in the country are born and raised in that area. So I may get involved in some sort of community programs to help the kids in my old age ... at least that's what I want to do. I always enjoyed coaching when my kids were little.

If you know where Black's Landing and Hilltop are ... then we're a stone's throw from there.
