They gave the death penalty to a program that would've had money raised for it anyways and made themselves look terrible in the eyes of the nation.
Outside of message boards this story is getting zero attention. As for the money where was it the last 20 years?

The only reason state plays instate Mississippi schools is because when Dan got here he proclaimed he could beat every team in the state. After beating Southern last year he has now done that.

do we get half credit for scheduling a southern team like MTSU

Honestly, the board probably got most of what they wanted.

1. UAB imposed the death penalty on itself. The football team will not be even decent for most likely 4 years at a minimum.
quote:Good luck to UAB football ~ float your own bills and I'd have to imagine the UA BOT will have no issue with them fielding any sport they want.
2. The program will now not get a dime of university money.

LSU-Tulane used to play every year. Why don't they play now.
Because they want us to play in New Orleans. LSU often plays an in-state team, but they will only be in Tiger Stadium. No one is saying Bama should play at UAB, Troy or something. Both programs should leave that to crappy programs like MSU.

Problems getting pledges signed? Until now they've had more problem getting the BOT to accept pledges for UAB football

They can sign all the pledges they like, UAB football is never going to be a viable sustaining program...particularly now as it was in effect given the death penalty.....

If they haven't played, why is Alabama so afraid?
You think Saban wants a piece of UAB again? Of course he's scared.
Posted on 6/1/15 at 5:30 pm to constant cough
saban learned his lesson and wants nothing of UAB
Posted on 6/1/15 at 5:32 pm to GetCocky11
They wont play because no one goes to UAB games, so no one would be there

Well that is stupid. There is no reason why Alabama can't drop Chattanooga or Middle Tennessee and play one of these in state schools. It is good for the state. Pay an in state school that money instead of some crappy out of state school.
How is it stupid? Why would Alabama want to help any other instate school out? Can you explain to me how it benefits Bama in anyway?

We agreed to play Auburn again and that was a mistake.

Yes, because using a publicly funded institution to further help the state of Alabama and other publicly funded Alabama institutions is just a terrible idea. Come on. If the state was smart, Alabama/Auburn/UAB/Troy/USA would be playing in football and basketball as much as possible. ESPECIALLY basketball. This state needs to become semi-relevant in basketball again.
It's been hard to get excited for Alabama or Auburn playing basketball period. At least adding a little in state rivalry into it makes it better.

No, I don't mean that us playing each other makes either program relevant in the national spotlight. It makes the sport relevant to people of this state. Basketball isn't very relevant to anyone here anymore. It used to be. And no, don't give me the "But Alabama is averaging 10k fans!" line. People haven't been close to being excited for basketball in this state in nearly a decade until this past year.

That has been becuase the product at UA and AU has just sucked. As a UAB fan you should understand that. Bama has a good basketball history and yes even with a bad product on the floor averaged 10K a game last season.

Well, UAB could always pull an API- go to the state legislature and force Bama to play them.

I'm excited about UA basketball every year.
