The AHSAA 6A title game drew more fans than that.

There's still people over there just not as many. Legion Field is only the lower bowl now, no upper decks. To put 22k in a 71.5k bowl you only need to fill up 30% of it. That's not far off looking at those pictures. So the city bought 5,000 tickets and only 17,000 showed up? There's easily be 17k in that picture alone.

That's fine. However, that picture is also from when UAB played #18 Marshall and had the 2nd highest attendance of the year (behind game against Alabama A&M, which was the highest attendance in 42 years)

Yeah? And this is what Miami Hurricanes home games looked like in 2014. Maybe we should cut their program too. At least UAB fans sit together.

If UAB had a 30,000 seat stadium, how many games would they sell out?

Maybe we should add them to the SEC

Miami's argument is everyone is too busy and there's too much going on.
UAB's argument is Birmingham doesn't care enough because we're all either Auburn or Alabama. Even if you go to UAB, you don't grow up a UAB fan. Honestly, I've lived in Alabama all my life and I've seen less than five true UAB fans.

Why do you gumps jump on auburn fans over UAB. Its you guys that come rushing out to justify the closing of a program you supposedly care nothing about.

I'm really just playing devils advocate here. I moved to Birmingham last July and had planned on going to a UAB game.. just never made it over there. If UAB had a 40,000 seat stadium, whether it be on campus, in a better part of town, or even Regions Field (similar to the way the old Chargers Stadium was/may still be), I think you'd see an increase in attendance. You'd also see an increase in people going to the businesses around the stadium (Nobody is going to businesses around Legion) and you'd see an increase in my property's value (condo downtown). So I'd love to see it.

Bear Jr tried to kill the Program, now it looks like he guaranteed its success by doing so. If he would have left it along, it would have dried up and died.

When a Louisville basketball fan says something negative about UK basketball do Kentucky fans usually defend the program

File this one under "meh."

I care about my Alma Mater (UA) and care when people attack it's reputation.

Translation: he pissed off the Auburn fans and they rallied around UAB.

If that stadium was the on campus one that was proposed right of I-65 in south side, and Bill Clark was he HC and they had a competitive team like this season I don't think it'd be a stretch to sell out 3/6 home games a year.
This season they sold 29k tickets vs Alabama A&M, 28k vs Marshall, and 27k vs Troy.
A Southside stadium would increase attendance. Much more accessible and nicer area than Legion Field. Region Field sells out plenty of Barons games in the vicinity of UAB and not many people in Birmingham care about baseball. Birmingham is the top CFB market in the country though and the whole city isn't in Tuscaloosa or Auburn on Saturday. You put a good football product for a cheap price in the hottest area of the top CFB city in the country and people will show up. Not sure why that's so hard for people to see.
