well, not much.... so far I've seen bruce is a cheater and AJ is better than sliced bread.

It is all perspective. Seems the whole thread is people telling us AJ sucks to me.

Which one would that be? Did AJ go as a player 'cause he hasn't been as a coach and Pearl has only been once.
To the OP, right now you'd have to say Pearl because he is a proven commodity.

One also has an NBA championship, but that's nothing compared to the elite 8 Amirite?

It seems to me it's Alabama fans refusing to acknowledge his shortcomings.

Pearl was great at Tennessee, a legit basketball program.

Neither has had any real success at their new positions to this point.

I like the Avery Johnson hire for Bama a lot, but I would definitely take Bruce Pearl if given the choice right now. Hopefully Avery Johnson can prove me wrong over the next few years.
Alabama has traditionally been a better basketball program than Auburn so I think Avery Johnson has an advantage in that respect. On the flip side Auburn's newish arena helps Pearl's cause a lot though.

What are Bama fans expecting here?
Don't really know what to expect. I think he will get a surprise recruit every year or so that would not normally come to Alabama and will improve the talent on the team.
If he stays the full 6 years I would be satisfied with 3 NCAA tournament appearances and making it to the second weekend a couple of times. That would be a big improvement over Grant and would put the program in a much better position going forward either for an extended AJ run or for the next coach.

Erik Spoelstra has two. Would you want that idiot anywhere near Tuscaloosa?
Spo is a top 5-10 NBA coach so I would imagine they would.

So Bruce Pearl was on the court in that OT loss? Its okay if you don't know. Most Alabama fans don't. They look at a box score and then pretend they remember what happened in that game.
So where was this master mind coach? Why wasn't he coaching his team?

If roles were reversed, I would be calling Bruce a cheater while I secretly liked him, and praising that Auburn was able to bring in a coach who knows the pro game and can use that in recruiting. Personally, I am just excited to have something to do between NSD and spring practice other than watch you idiots troll each other. I really enjoyed basketball this season for the first time ever and we were terrible.

tRant Bama haters say the hire sucks....Bama fans see the upside....same shite different day.
If we had landed Marshall the narrative would have been overpaid, unproven in P5, can't recruit the state, blah, blah, blah....If Bama had hired Phil Jackson, these idiots would say the same shite.

I don't think the hire sucks. But Bruce Pearl is a better college coach today. I'd certainly rather him at LSU than Avery.

Yes, as it fits my argument and agenda. It is also a fact.
It may fit your agenda, but saying it's a fact is strictly mathematical...and very misleading, but I guess that's by design. He was 16-2 and 14-14 in those 2 partial seasons...your logic would be like saying he only won 16 games in his first season as a coach...might be a fact but that's conveniently leaving out the fact that he only coached 18 games that year...

As it stands, everyone would take Bruce Pearl over Avery Johnson (except Alabama fans).
After the very public rejection from Marshall, I'm ecstatic about the AJ hire; when Marshall turned us down, I was not excited 'bout our prospects but AJ has energized our fanbase...the next couple of years will tell whether or not our optimism is/was justified. That being said, from a college basketball perspective, I would think almost any objective person would say Pearl is a more proven commodity by far, me included. However, even if we had let Grant go last year and Pearl was available, I'm not sure our AD would've gone after him. He was clearly the best coach available then but he does carry some baggage...and we were still in our 5-year repeat offender window at the time.

Mchale?
Joerger?

Meh....whatever....Pearl is a good coach and so is CAJ....we will see...we are moving our program forward and there is a lot of excitement, publicity, and energy around the program now and that is the important thing. I really DGAF what Auburn and Pearl does...Bama needs to focus on what they can control. Right now I am more concerned that Bama gets momentum and doesn't get left behind and that we execute on the basketball strategy over the next 5-years.
