Bama wasting money on a sport their fans don't care about,a nd they will never be that good at
This guy wasting his career to go coach a team that won't be the top team in their conference.
Remember this post when Bama is competitive next year or the following one and Coleman is packed to the rafters. It'll happen. Bama fans aren't UK fans; they aren't diehard hoops people who will come no matter what. That's the football fans. But when we win and win consistently, and the team isn't as boring as watching paint dry, they'll come and they'll come in droves.

Would surprise me if Bama lands him...BUT I think too many people are over inflating the Texas job.
Texas isn't what some pump it up as being. It's a top 25 job, but not one of the best in the nation.
I'd say Bama is a top 30-35 job. So, IMO prestige of both programs is nearly a wash. It's going to boil down to who Gregg wants to go against...Kansas, Iowa State, Okla State, Baylor...or Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas, LSU?

Alabama is doing exactly what it needs to in this situation. Make the best offer possible to the best candidate.
Even if the deal does not work out, they have shown they are serious about their commitment and I would think that would be a huge plus for any prospective coach.

You're a blind homer if you can't see benefit to both parties.
if Bama wants to spend 3 mill to make a their team an sweet 16 team (maybe) then yeah. i supoose thats worth it.
And clearly this guy has a chance to you know get paid 3 million dollars a year with way lower expectations than at a basketball school.

Widely believed to be a top 7-10 coach in the country. If he goes to bama he'll be paid accordingly. he'll have every resource needed to succeed at Bama and his coaching ability will insure that he does so. Makes sense for him to go to a place and be THE guy instead of to UNC, Duke, etc. and be "another good coach".
Being the THE guy at Bama bands like 2 elite 8's. he would be a top 10 coach at a school that doesn't consistently even sniff the tournament. That has never even made a final 4.

Is that how you do job searches?
"I won't go to your company even though you're going to triple my salary. You're not a top 10 company."
It's not? Weird. It may not be how college basketball coaches do job searches either. I can guarantee you his agent is interested in total compensation.

I just don't want this to happen because I don't want Gregg Marshall in the SEC. He is a good coach and South Carolina totally screwed up by not hiring him in 2008.

I don't think he comes but I didn't think Saban would either so what the hell do I know.

I think its a better bball job than the Bama job....but you're right. Texas is overvalued...in football and basketball.

He and Battle are meeting, probably right now. His weekly show has been put on hold tonight, no word yet if it will be on later.
If this doesn't happen, Tuscaloosa should be banned for embarrassing the rest of the Bama posters on here.
