I figured since this is all subjective anyway, it'd give some insight to the reasons some feel certain bands are overrated.
No certain order:
1. Fugazi
2. Morphine
3. Kyuss
4. John Prine
5. Tool (I know, they have a huge following, just think they don't get recognized/talked about as often as they should)

John Prine? Feel like he's pretty well known and appreciated.
I'm not sure if bands like Band of Horses are underrated, they're highly rated within the parameters of their existence, they're unknown to the mainstream, which I think is different than over or underrated.
But I'll do the same, listing highly rated but mostly unknown bands.
Deer Tick (John McCauley is a man from another time, the real deal).
My Morning Jacket
Townes Van Zandt (Doesn't get credit for being maybe best song writer of all time).
Ryan Bingham (get's no credit for being the real deal while bunch of guys named Luke make hip-hop nashville pop).
Houndmouth (will blow up within the indie-rock-alt-country scene in 2015 with their second full length, see new song For No One on youtube).
Dr. Dog

Good call.
Amazing how many people don't know who the band that sings that 'load off annie' song, which I often have to refer to it as.
It's amazing that they had nearly every musical great show up to play in The Last Waltz, yet they're still unknown.
Always thought it had a lot to do with the inability for record companies to place them in a neatly packaged genre, among other things.

Kiss
One of the worst bands of all time. Not one good song, not one. They put make up on, boots, spikes, look all tough, then they come out on stage and suck.

Unbelievable comment. Talent wise, from top to bottom, one of the best ever. I need to know your age and what music you "think" is good before I can figure you out.
