Carolina Cup is still a wild time. It's like the entire university drives 40mins east to Camden and gets shitefaced now..

For the Missouri OP, this is as Southern as it gets. All you 30A FL punks, Bama hippies, and LA Coonies(They won't because too many deer) stay out.
Natchez is the last place where you feel like you're still in the South..... Affluent rich folks and black good folk still living amongst each other.

I second Mentone. Went there for a weekend getaway with friend and had a blast.

Hammond and Covington, La on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain are great for walking tours, festivals, art and craft and car shows and retro architecture.
South Baton Rouge area hosts US Hot Air Balloon competitions.

No shite? We stayed there this Fall. Great pizza place there that we liked a lot. Neat little beer store in town with a friendly owner and an awesome breakfast place in an old house downtown.
Asheville, NC is awesome. More in the footprint would be: Chattanooga, TN, Florence, AL, Savanah, GA, and Mobile, AL.

Pine Bluff, AR, home of CrowPie. A fine area. Hardly any crime there either...

Here are my suggestions, based on personal experience, for the OP.
Mt. Dora, Florida
Johnson City, Tennessee
Aiken, South Carolina
Huntsville, Alabama
Branson, Missouri
Pawley's Island, South Carolina
There are others, but those are a good start.

Makes perfect sense.
Yeah, yeah, Mt. Dora is slightly cool but it's still for old folks. The inn is nice, I'll give your ball scratching self that.
Do you keep them in your socks these days?

I've heard good things about the Upper 9th Ward/Bywater and Marigny area.
it's changing for the better. I still cab it in and out of the district buy enjoy the food and music a lot. currently, there is little to no jazz in the Quarter (and Preservation Hall is way too touristy with long lines). the Little Gem Saloon downtown is also outstanding.
