Because our coach would rather win a game 24-10 than 42-28. When a Les Miles team gets a sizable lead, the offense drains the clock so the team can get out of the stadium with the Win.
How many Top 5 scoring Ds do you expect aTm to have in the next 6 years?

Honestly,
I'd be happy with Top 70 this year, compared to what we've had. Top 30-40 should be expected in 2016, approaching Top 15 status by 2017.
I don't expect an overnight miracle change like some.

LSU lost two games that year in which the combined offensive output for the Tigers was 65 points. Both of those games featured a final drive vs our infamous prevent defense that won the game for the opposition, who combined for a total of 71 points. The other loss was on both offense and defense in which Alabama scored 38 and LSU scored 17.
In 2012 and 2013, the defense allowed 4 game winning drives to account for 2/3rds of LSU's losses during that span.

Good luck with that.
Sumlin runs a fast-paced, quick strike offense. Chavis runs a passive, bend-don't-break defense.
aTm over the last five years ranks approx. 100th in Time of Possession and doesn't have quality defensive depth.
Sumlin will be fired before you see a Top 15 defense.

It's dependent on the talent you have. Chavis can run a very good defense with very good talent. His prevent defense will never change though.

Doesn't really apply when it's a one-possession game with under two minutes left.

I also think that Chavis would be way more willing to attack if he knew his offense could put up big points.
When you guys are talking about low scoring games being decided by field goals, attacking defense is pretty risky. One big play could be the ball game.

Chavis isn't about to change what he's been doing for 30 years.

He's going to have to change some things with the worst personnel he's ever had at the D1 level.

Not going to happen. It's all about containment, bend but don't break, etc. You'll need solid linebackers, and you'll need CB's that can be put on an island. Don't expect very many sacks or much production up front.
He'll improve your defense though, no doubt about it. I think anyone would though.

The Tigers return six starters from their bowl game against Notre Dame and most of the key reserves.
And,boy did Chavis' boys ever rise to the occasion when they were needed the most in that game.Stuff of legends, right there.

Why would you need CBs that can be put on an island if he's not bringing pressure and he's just trying to play contain?

You might be onto something. Scoring ZERO against Bama and 21 against ULM, yea ULM is pretty impressive!
I'd say Chavis is in the best position, he get Aggie in the top 100 yall will be extatic! Hell Sumlin might get another raise and extension!

Our offense had a really down year by their standards last year and managed to rank 48 spots higher than your offense.
your best offense in 2013 was still only good enough for 23rd.
Ya'll have as much of chance cracking top 10 in O as we do in D.
we've been 28th, 5th, and 4th in offense... but yes go ahead and convince yourself our offense is a problem

Don't you think having an offense that puts your D on the field for 40 minutes constitutes a problem?

This.
With the offense we run, even a marginal improvement on defense would make a significant difference.
