And be realistic
Agree. Alabama was unrealistic in thinking they could get a guy like Saban to come coach their football team. They need to be a bit more realistic this time.
Bama pays Grant more than AU pays Pearl. Point being that Bama pays their bball coach well and can lure a talented "name" coach under the right circumstances.
Be realistic...Psh. Shoot for the moon quietly and then be realistic if you have to later.
bama's willingness to pay grant money has no bearing on a big name coach coming in ...

The only other hire Battle has had to make while AD was women's basketball. He went out and hired a quality coach, with tournament experience. Kristy Curry is also making around half-million a year, making her the highest paid female employee of the state. Not the best of starts so far, but I think it shows Battle is willingly to make hires to improve all sports.

Not sure you could pry him away but Dave Rose at BYU is big-time good. Would love to see his controlled fast-break style in the SEC. Sure ain't boring.

Some excitement would be nice. At least when Gottfried was here, a loss wasn't excruciatingly boring to watch. With Grant, even wins can feel like nails on a chalkboard. It's like watching JV women's basketball.

That last 2 years of Gottfried were excruciating as well.

Time to switch to Vanderbilt

I once pondered shite like this but it doesn't matter. Alabama will never win a NC in Basketball. Just not gonna happen.
Might as well pick a student every game to coach and fricking wing it.

Jon Gruden..isn't he the first name thrown out for any head coaching job?

I believe the key is the plaid sports coat -- make sure they wear that whoever it is.
Has anyone suggested that to AG?

I wonder how well that would work with the type recruiting footprint Alabama has or could achieve.
It would seem, to an outsider like myself, that Alabama's main problem recently has been either that the recruiting footprint isn't producing as many players like Horry, McDyess, Caffey, Hendrix, Wallace, Askins, McKey etc etc??
Or is it that later Gottfried/Grant have simply been losing the good ones from the area?
Alabama's basketball team, from when I was a kid until about 10 years ago, always seemed to be stacked with talent (especially one All-SEC type power forward after another) even if they never really got over the hump in the NCAA tourney.

Gottfried signed tons of elite players and elite classes. More of them were underdeveloped, but even he coached quite a few solid NBA players
- Mo Williams
- Anthony Gee
- Gerald Wallace
- JaMychal Green
Andrew Steele would have been on that list as well if not for debilitating injuries. On top of that he signed guys like Jamareo Davidson, Kennedy Winston, Rod Grizzard, Ernest Shelton, etc.
Grant's class that are now seniors were a Top 5 class. Lacey, Cooper and Randolph were all Top 75 guys. Lacey and Cooper were top 40 guys. We just haven't developed them.

Would have been 85% better at basketball if his name was Winston Kennedy. NO ONE DENIES THIS!

I think Pastner at Memphis would take the job. I feel like Memphis is catching on that he's an underachiever. He might be looking to jump ship before it's too late
eta: even though he wouldn't take it, I would force the Iowa State coach to say no first and foremost

Nor should they.

Tough sell. Hey, Fred, leave your alma mater and abandon a juggernaut to come to a football school that doesn't care about basketball. Yeesh.

Ha yea - Fred Hoiberg is not leaving Iowa State for Alabama. The only place Hoiberg will leave ISU for is an NBA job, and NBA people aren't even sure he will do that.

The Pastner thing is intriguing, but man he just isn't a very good basketball coach.

He would Chip Kelly them in a heartbeat.
