Thinking about the four team playoff, how long until we get to eight?

I think the four teams chosen were probably correct. We got some great matchups. But I think you could argue there were six teams who had a legitimate argument to be in the final four.
I wonder how much the conference titles mattered? What I mean is, do you think the new format will pretty much exclude a non-conference champion SEC team in the future.
I hope that we get to an eight team playoff sooner rather than later.

As soon as Alabama is Number 5

If after 12 regular games, plus conference championship weekend, you're only ranked 8th..you don't deserve a title shot. 6 is the absolute MAX it should ever go to IMO.
I also think a committee is unncecessary, and should just keep the BCS and take the top 4 (or 6) teams.

We already have 8, it is called the CCG's
Notice all 4 teams in the playoff won their CCG.
Keep asking for 8 but open your eyes and see 8 is already here.

I honestly think it will take a few years. Before anything changes we will have to get through a full cycle (so have all 6 of the New Years 6 Bowls host a semifinal). So that is at least two more seasons after this one (playoffs 1/1/2017 should finish one rotation) at the earliest.
You would also have to figure out how to handle the quarterfinal games - will they be bowls or on campus? What is the timing? If on campus, would they be this weekend, as to not step on the toes of the bowl games (and would the 4 losing teams still go bowling?) If you are doing them as bowls, which four bowls get elevated to that level and when would they be played as to give enough time between the quarters and semis on 1/1, but still not interfere with Christmas. Also, if you elevate those four bowls, what happens to the tie ins to the conferences that you have just removed?

So you're saying if Missouri had pulled the upset over Bama that they would have been in?
CCGs don't exactly constitute an 8 team playoff in that scenario

They do to a degree. If Missouri rolled in there with 1 loss and won, they would have been in. Similar to how they almost made the BCS last year.
CCG act as an unofficial part of the playoff. It is what got Ohio State in this year. If Bama would have loss, they would have been left out and no SEC team in because Missouri already had 2 losses.
So the CCGs got a team and in and could have prevented a team from making it.

I agree with this. No more. You are not deserving to be a champion if you are ranked #7. Period. You need the regular season to mean something.
Give #1 & #2 a bye. Make 5 play 6, and 3 play 4. #1 plays the winner of 5/6. #2 plays the winner of 3/4.
Maybe. I don't know. This year has the best 4 teams in my opinion. Do the others actually deserve a chance? Not so sure.

They don't at all. Had Missouri, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, and Arizona all won their CCG games, how many of them would be in the field of 4?

What if they expand to 6 teams. This ensures that the power 5 is represented with one at large team from any conference.

I see your point, but that math seems off.
If Wiscy had won, would they be in?
Would GT be in?
Would Mizzou be in?
Would Arizona be in?
Also, you have to think the Big 12 will find a way to get a conference game.
That would leave five conference champs and four spots.

It can't be by conference title. It can't be.
Many didn't agree with Alabama making the championship game a few years ago, but damn, they were deserving. Having it just be conference champs can potentially leave out the best teams. You just can't do it.

No I will repeat what I said when the season started.
8 team playoff begins with 4 CCG's
4 expected winners will get 1st priority for 4 playoff spots
If an expected CCG winner gets upset then they fill in with a B12 or Notre Dame or BYU based on who has 0 or 1 loss at the time.
The playoff was designed to reign in the SEC not benefit it. It was also intended to consolidate the Power 5 at the expense of the Gang of 5. Going to 8 just destroys what Delany worked so hard to get so don't hold your breath waiting. B1G may suck at football but they have the money, population, and power to not let the power be lost.

8 is too many. Does MSST and MichST really deserve to play for a national championship? That would devalue the regular season way to much.

That is exactly what I am hoping for!

Look nobody would love to see Delany fall flat on his face more than I would but it will not happen. Ever since Rupp allowed the NCAA the power in the 1950's the B1G has controlled with an iron first with the PAC and the ACC to back them up when needed.
The only real threats were the B12 (after the merger of the SWC and Big 8) and the SEC. B1G knew they could not break the SEC so they broke the B12 when they landed Nebraska by using Missouri as the pawn to start the ball rolling. SEC football may be king and SEC sports in a dominant position overall but that still leaves them in a minority in population and large cities and that is hard to overcome no matter how good the product.

Never. There were only three teams this year, why expand to eight to justify the fourth entry.

Exactly.
How often does it happen that there's more than 2 or 3 teams that might REALLY be the best in the country? Almost never. Why should some crap team get a chance at a NC?

I think we need at least 5. There would be far less controversy if there was a team from all the power 5 conferences. 6 would be ideal. It wouldn't exclude the smaller conferences. Give the top 2 a bye. 8 is too many games.
But this is only assuming the big12 gets their shite together sometime soon.
