Bama set that program up to fail.
LSU, AU, and AR don't even allow their sister schools to play football, let alone FBS football. UAB was given a chance, and supported for 20+ years. Let me know the next time another SEC school does the same.

ow is this SEC related?
this, tired of hearing about the dead program and all the faux outrage from the idiots on here.
Nobody gave a flying frick about UAB a week ago.
over 20K fans showed up last sat to watch UAB play Marshall

I really hope this is the action needed for change.
University of Birmingham sounds nice. Face facts, BoT no longer works for two large campuses. It is clear they are viewed as competition in some manner (attempting to shutter Honors Program as well).
Then UA won't have to cry about money to athletics and UAB can keep the research money it generates.

Way more fans will attend Bama baseball than UAB football games.
Yep.

That will never happen. Sorry.

I agree with much of what you said. Most of the Bama people on here probably do too. We're just tired of seeing dumbass, uneducated rants from bitter idiots.

What is the ultimate end game with this? I'm a current student at UAB with several friends in honors programs. I would hate to see them affected.

I will say this is very sad and Who knows what it would've took to save UAB football...
Wtf are you talking about? I wasn't aware UAB football needed "saving". Financially it was doing better than many D-1A schools. Competitively it was turning the corner.
But just keep spouting your brainwashed Bama fan talking points

I guess that they move on USA next somehow since they got a recruit Bama was interested in.

AL.com: Some of your blog seems to imply that Ray Watts is actively fighting to dismantle UAB's status. Do you believe this to be the case?
SC: Yes, I do. I still have many friends in the UAB pipeline, many of whom are afraid to go public for fear of losing their jobs. They all, to a one, say that academics are being threatened. The football situation just brought some of those threats to public light. It started early this spring when Watts attacked the University Honors Program and attempted to dismantle a program that's produced numerous Rhodes, Truman and Goldwater Scholars. He said the students in the program were too "elitist." Since when does a University try to dismantle a program that brings it untold academic accolades?

This. If there were a fund drive to save the program, I'd donate. If I donated now it would just go towards locker room waterfalls in Tuscaloosa.
thats the bitch part about this. UAB has received some substantial donations but the way the UA system fund is set up it all goes to waterfalls in the weight room at uat & statues of saban. UAB has been in a position of paying in and not being able to withdraw.

Bama BOT and Jr are wealthy white trash that only care about one thing, Bama football. Not integrity, not anything else.

That really does have a nice ring to it.

This was never about $$$, if was they would have atleast considered dropping down to the sun belt (ULL and ASU would take their place in C-USA in a second) or FCS.

When is LSU gonna do that for LSU-S?
when they get a football team
La Tech would raise hell about that

LSU-S=4,082 students not big enough for D1 football
LSU-A=2,233 students not big enough for D1 football
UAB=18,000 students that is almost the size of ULM and LaTech combined
Do you see the difference?

The "frick you, we got ours" mentality of some of these Gumps is unbelievable and only furthers the stereotype of delusion that their fanbase has.

I guess one of the worst parts is how Coach Clark was misled when he took the job.
A great coach with a great future would probably not taken a job if he thought the program would not exist in 1 year.
We all play 2 or 3 football games against the UAB level programs each season. These games are more important to our programs than some folks think. It provides a rent a win. It gets experience for younger players and walk-ons.
These programs also afford late bloomers an opportunity to play. Guys like Roddy White, Joe Webb from UAB and Alfred Morris from FAU.
Less football is never good in my book.
