What's your take on UAB's situation?

It's been mentioned in other threads but not really discussed beyond the possibility of Clark coaching elsewhere.
I know of at least 2 UAB grads on this board so I know we have some opinion here

You can't repeatedly set an entity up to fail, then bitch that they're not a cash cow.

UAB could be a solid program with a positive revenue stream.
The only problem with created that is that it would siphon off boosters and fans from Alabama to create such a situation. Pretty obvious why it is unsuccessful and not given the proper support

The program was set up to fail. The repeated blocking of coach hiring and the refusal to upgrade any facilities.... Not to mention refusing to even discuss another location to play games
I hope uab alums and fans fight it. It really is a load of crap. And will hurt uab and bham in the long run.

Heard this morning that they essentially told the previous head coach the program was being shut down and when they hired Clark didn't tell him squat.

I could not have stated it better. I got into an argument last night with a gump on the MSB about the topic, and they refuse to admit that lack of support has hindered growth.

To anyone that isn't a bama fan trying to cover for this BS power move, it is apparent that UAB never had a chance to earn positive cash flow.
It has also been made known of Jr's vendetta against UAB and peculiar that this is happening as he is exiting the BOT.
What fan base would ever want to have to attend games at Legion Field every home game?
I think the governor claiming to look into it is just window dressing to cover his arse politically.

UAB's growth has been stunted. This is much bigger than football. The Honors Program is in jeopardy as well.
UAB is trying to transition to a more traditional campus. UA is trying to stop it.

Alabama wants credit and money from UABHS and the Med School. They want UAB to be insignificant. They hate the UAT reference.
This is also a pre-emotive strike to prevent autonomy by UAB. I hope this backfires and it is changed to the University of Birmingham. (Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis).
I know that AUM students can buy student football tickets to Auburn, etc. It is treated as a system. Never heard of a single complaint from them.

I keep hearing the argument from the Bama people that maybe UAB should fill their stadium before there are talks of funding a new one. Legion Field? Really? It's a horrible stadium in a demilitarized zone and I can't really blame anyone not wanting to go there.

Bentley and Bryant Jr. are total bros. I laughed pretty hard when I saw he was ' looking into it.' Bentley won't cross PBJ

AUM has it's on board, I believe... they basically govern themselves, unlike UAB.
Sounds like it's a done deal that the program is getting axed.

Lifelong Birmingham resident and been following UAB athletics since Darrell Hackney and Roddy White were playing in Legion Field and Squeaky Johnson and the Taylor twins were upsetting 1 seed Kentucky in the NCAA tournament. I've been pissed at the way UAB athletics has been undermined for years now.
I remember not long before the Jimbo Fisher hire was nixed there was a Bama basketball player from Bham than wanted to transfer to UAB and the denied it and released him to play everywhere except UAB. Theyre too scared to even play UAB so it wasn't even a threat to them. shite pissed me off.

If UAB had their own stadium, and updated facilities, they would be a force. Tons of football fans in Bham.

AUM does not have a separate board.

Well that's the 'set up to fail' part. You block good coaches, higher calloway, prevent looking for new venues or building a stadium then point their inability to attract people as justification.

The UA system wants all the good parts of UAB (Med school, academic prowess) without having to throw a bone to the athletic department or for campus upgrades. UAB having a robust university is good for the state and Birmingham, but I guess UA is worried about losing fans and - more importantly - money. It's BS for sure.

My concern is that since they're shutting it down, if we don't get Muschamp, then Bill Clark's "availability" becomes a factor in his hiring.
