Yea I definitely think it can go either way and the kickoff coverage we've had all day argues for kicking it deep. Unfortunately, we had a lot of chances to win this game, Chubb and Michel are both great backs but man those fumbles were killers. Especially Michel sticking it out for the goal line when we would've easily punched it in at that point.
Of course later in the game we couldn't get it in the endzone with 3 plays inside the 5. Our OL was very disappointing today.

I strongly disagree. The squib is the go-to play in that situation every time.
It is designed to force the slower players to recover the ball, taking the ball out of the hands of the fastest returners. It also (usually) knocks extra seconds off the clock, since it can't be a "touchback".
Tech's entire defense is predicated on the run. They are great at eating clock, but not great at big plays with little time left on the clock. Their kicker's long was about 10 yards shorter than the one he got today, so GT would've needed to pick up about 30 yards in that case.
The safe call was the pooch kick, and, again, If they had kicked it deep and the returner scored a TD, everyone would be calling for CMR's head for not doing the textbook pooch kick.

It absolutely cost us the game. Coupled with our offenses inability to sustain any second half drives and it's turnovers early, and the defenses inability to stop a high school offense, and our fullbacks lack of depth perception on ST.

Odds of them returning kick off: <1%.
Odds of them getting 20 yards and making 50+ yard field goal: roughly 10% probably less.
Anyways our coach chose the option that was 10 times more likely to occur. Excellent

Even if those probabilities are true, GT has a 10% or less chance of executing either way. The squib is the textbook play when they've got less than 20 seconds and they can't move the ball efficiently for huge gains.

All of this. I like the squib if there are less than 10 seconds on the clock, or if they need a 4 or more points to tie you. That was not the case here, and that's why it was a horrible call.

had a bigger issue with the defensive play call and not trying to block the FG personally. Not sure why you would just sit there and let them boot it low over the line.
and spying with a slower player makes zero sense. Should have also been playing the sideline and forcing to the middle of the field where all our defenders were so a mistake there. We looked confused pre snap, was expecting a TO there. It took us totally mismanaging the final 3 plays for them to squeak a FG in by a foot.

Radi just tweeted that Mark Richt is as sick as he's ever been after a loss and took responsibility for the kick decision. Sounds good enough for an extension to me

HE should be sick. It was a poor call.

Richt made a stupid fricking call and that's not hindsight. We had a 3 point lead. You do everything in your power to keep the other team pinned back on their end of the field when the lead is only 3 points.
Richt fricked up bad and he deserves every bit of shite he is forced to eat for it.

Good. He has been a head coach for 14 years at UGA. He should know better, and yet he made a 2001-type rookie coach decision.

Still disagree. Could've gone either way and if they return the ball for a TD, everyone screams that we should've pooched.
If we had a kicker who could consistently kick the ball out of the back of the endzone, I would change my tune.

I can remember at least three times when Richt's idiotic pooch kicks led directly to losses. Good teams have a kicker who can kick the ball through the end zone. I love Richt's Georgia teams but the man is truly an idiot.

Why don't we pooch every time then? Our goal should be the same. Put them in the worst possible position. According to you, that implies a pooch/squib.
So for you, if richt didn't frick up the squib today, he fricked up every other kick and 95% of the kicks in his tenure

How in the world did you take my comments to mean that the pooch kick is the optimal call on every kick-off opportunity?
With less than 20 seconds left in the game against an offense that struggles to pick up huge chunks of yards at a time (especially one who has struggled to throw the ball against your defense), it was a good call. Obviously the outcome wasn't what we wanted, but I blame the defense more than the ST call.
If we had a kicker who could boot the ball out of the back of the end zone, I think we would have kicked it deep and gone with a touch back, and I would have supported that.

We gave them yards with that kick. Plain and simple.

I'm just trying shite and seeing if it hits
I can't possibly believe you think that was the right call but to each his own

It's cool. I know everyone is pissed and not thinking straight, but I don't mind. lol
In all seriousness, if they don't pick up 20 yards on that run or if the kicker misses the FG, no one here would care about a pooch vs a deep kick.
