Well, #1, both of those places are OTP, so they don't count. #2, In-Town Atlanta in 2014 is not even in the same stratosphere as in 1990 (I lived here in 1990 and my parents would concur), and isn't even really close to the same as 2005.
It is not like I have been in a hole since then. I go back to Atlanta often for work and sometimes to a Concert or Play. Again, those amenities are not enough draw to ever want me to live there again. I think the city as a whole a declined due to growth over the last 10 years.

Heck, within 5 miles of my house are the largest population of Indians, Pakistanis, Iranians and Vietnamese outside of New York, Washington or the West Coast.

But do you really not acknowledge that Atlanta has probably 10x the ethnic diversity of Birmingham? We have more people from a much wider variety of countries. The fact that they predominantly reside in areas you don't want to spend time in doesn't make it less true.
You seem to be hung up on comparing Dallas and Atlanta to NYC and SF. That really doesn't make sense, considering we've neither has ever been a first stop immigration city. It doesn't mean we don't have vibrant ethnic communities or culture, but you're comparing us to the cultural epicenters of the US.
Does Birmingham compare favorably with NYC or SF? No, and to be
That is what people do not understand about the ethnic culture of a city. Just because there is diverse population, doesn't mean there is a diverse culture adopted in the City.

Which shouldn't involve football IMHO.
They should attempt to fill a void, not try and compete with something that already captures 90% of the state's attention. And that void is basketball.
That is exactly what the old Big East did with Basketball.

Valid reasons for disliking Atlanta:
People are vapid
Too many transplants
Neighborhoods shift from good to shitty too quickly
Race relations/issues
City governance blows
Mass transit sucks
Traffic sucks
Hot/humid
Invalid reasons for disliking Atlanta:
Doesn't have as much culture as Birmingham, AL

Would any of us be a fan if we had a stadium like UAB? It's not safe at all to go there in my experience. I went to UAB and I can say if it had a stadium (not necessarily something extravagant) they would have more pull fan wise and recruiting wise. Nobody wants to play or coach for a team with the ol grey lady as a home field. It's Alabama though the richest of the football states. They could pull some Bham kids with a stadium.

Seriously, you should stop.
You are right, Atlanta is no longer growing at a 10% yearly clip like it did in the 1990's.
However, Atlanta grew at a rate of 4.47% from 2010 to 2013, roughly the same as Miami.
Birmingham grew at a 1.09% clip.
So......

Which makes sense when you're comparing Atlanta to San Francisco. It makes absolutely no sense when comparing Atlanta to Birmingham, which has absolutely zero cultural diversity adopted into the city.

Back? It never left. It still is the University of Alabama School of Medicine no matter how much UAB tries to change it

Good for them. ULM needs one in the worse kind of way, not because LSU (not even in the same system) or ULL is blocking their progress but because the adminstration does not care about athletics.

Growth of population over a 3 year period.......
Atlanta is still growing at a steady clip. That is the point.

There would be Civil War if this ever happened. I don't understand why Alabama is determined to hang onto the medical program when associates the two? UAB Hospital and the medical school are their own separate brands

I wasn't comparing BHM to ATL, I mainly was pointing out the issues with Atlanta.

The University of Alabama School of Medicine is at UAB, which is part of the UA system. Tuscaloosa has a branch of it.
Point is move the School of Medicine back to Tuscaloosa and let UAB go do their own thing. The only reason UA trys to hang on to UAB is they have the medical school.
