easy to figure out. given the level of disappointment with the last several coaches, his timing was perfect.
Heisman winning QB, beat Alabama and recruiting classes much higher. the ags were experiencing record number of contributions from alum that were excited and they wanted to keep the guy awhile since it was entirely possible other schools and the nfl would come a knocking soon.

I had them going winless in the SEC this season, but they jumped out the gate and whooped South Carolina and then pulled a W out of Hill's arse against Arkansas.
