Lou Holtz. 0-11 in 1999, to a 5-0 start in 2000 at Carolina.

Fact, we don't recruit well enough according to the "experts" to be #1 in the country. We see how well that has worked out.
As I said. This year is a perfect storm for MISS St. An extremely experienced team with 2 of the 3 perennial powerhouse programs being down do to attrition.
Something you Miss St fans are claiming won't happen to you.

I'm not saying Miss St will suck last year at all. You just won't be challenging for the west title. Hell lsu might not either.
Miss st is losing its top sack and tfl man ,2 of your top 6 wr and of tge 6 players with an int on your roster, you lose 3 of them. Its hard to replace all that experience, even when you're a program that recruits in the top 10 every year. Let alone a program like miss st that relies on player development rather than all out talent.
ETA: I'm pulling for yall the rest of the year and hope yall bring the title back to the sec west where it belongs. Have any of you heard if
McKinney come back this year? He is a very good lb and probably you're most consistent defensive player.he and Preston are really fun to watch. Preston has shown out this year. Its rare as hell to have a dlinemen be so versatile. He leads yall in tfl, sacks and is 2nd in interceptions. He will def be missed.

This is the myopia of SEC fandom. All of the State fans' comments are perfectly logical in a vacuum. However, bringing a bunch of players back and filling in the holes with players who are as good or better doesn't always get the job done. The fact is that, no one in the SEC is sitting still (except maybe Vandy, since Franklin left).
No team exists in a bubble, which is exactly why UF, LSU, and Bama are off right now. The talent is there in all three programs. However, in this conference, losing a half step in any phase of the game is all it takes to go from 10 or more wins to barely making a bowl.
So, go on and project out exactly what will happen in the future in your minds, but the truth is, no one knows and no one will. There isn't a single person that covers sports who is predicting every rise and fall correctly. There's a reason for that. It's impossible. For LSU fans, we all think Harris and LF are going to be dominant players. They certainly have the talent to be. But we can't know that for sure. For Bama fans, who knows how the QB situation will play out long term. Will next year's squad bounce back angry like the 2011 team did coming off a disappointing season? Will State's "stars be damned, get them in and coach em up" strategy continue to work at this year's level into the future? Who knows.
Your closest past comparison on this philosphy, in my opinion, would be Houston Nutt in his time at Arkansas. He was able to take teams with lower composite recruiting ratings, sprinkle in a few game changers here and there, and be successful. He won the West twice, which is nothing to laugh at. However, he had busts to go with the booms. When everything didn't dovetail together perfectly, his teams struggled a bit. They were pretty well coached. They always played hard, and with that chip on their shoulder. I don't think he was as good of an offensive coach as Mullen, but I think the team building philosphy was similar.

Gene Chizik 3-5 over his last 8 games in 2009 and then won it all in 2010.
Having said that, MSU looks like the best team in the country to me.
They certainly out-played and out-coached us on Saturday.
I will be very surprised if they don't run the table, although I hope OM beats them and AU wins out and wins the West.
