On the surface it makes sense, but you have to realize that really the only way these little schools can even field a team and operate their little athletic departments is from the couple of million they get each year letting a few big schools kick the dog shite out of them.
In the big picture, there's nothing wrong with it. At least I can speak for UGA. You still have to play all your East SEC opponents, then two west SEC opponents then an ACC opponent in Tech who until the last 3 years has been a good team, then we usually have a Clemson or Notre Dame in there somewhere, what's the hurt in playing Georgia Southern or Charleston Southern as more of an exhibition game than anything else, and it really is the life blood of those smaller programs.

They should make it to where you can only play an FCS team in your state.
You will only see South Carolina play Wofford, Citadel, Coastal Carolina, or Furman from the FCS.

I didn't want to say it out loud.
But also Georgia State.
And now Kennesaw State has a new football program.
I really wouldn't mind using them as our own juco training grounds but giving them millions of dollars to grow and grow is bad for business.
It's not like Furman and Wofford and Citadel in SC.
Wofford literally has 1200 or so student body.
Those SC FCS schools aren't capable of growing, or otherwise very unlikely to grow into formidable opponents over the next 20 years.
Not the case with GSU, GAState, Kennesaw. Those are already large schools, very large, and fully capable of growing their football programs.
GSU already joining FBS this year.
Dooley was the consultant to put together Kennesaw's team/program.

If a football program can't sustain itself with donating rent a wins to bigger schools, maybe that program shouldn't exist.
Football programs shouldn't be giving/receiving welfare.
Besides, those FBS non-power conference teams need those checks too, and they at least have a pulse.
This isn't a slam against UGA, because all SEC teams do this crap and I hate it. It's embarrassing. Either the SEC team wins like 70-0 which is embarrassing, or something like the UF/Ga Southern game happens and that's more embarrassing. Really no good can come from such a game.

GSU is FBS now as is GA State. Idk what KSU will end up being and VSU is D2. So, I mean, we are kinda limited. So we just make it rain nationally.

I think South Carolina is required to play an in-state one annually (guess it applies to Clemson as well).

Well, Georgia has tried to lead the way in this by scheduling more than 1 decent OOC opponent most years. Got GT every year. Instead of having 4 games to schedule against cupcakes, UGA only has 3, and then scheduling Clemsons and Notre Dames leaves us with only 2 cupcakes a season, thats really not that bad.
Problem is, noone has followed our lead.
Sure, other schools will schedule one decent OOC opponent each year but never ever two. Only Georgia and Florida have done that in recent years. ETA- AND South Carolina.

Idk how it works but GA State is the second or third, I believe 2nd, largest school in the state. Idk if there is a rule about school size in classification but maybe that's part of it.

So far Ole Miss has Memphis, Wofford and Georgia Southern for 2016, so what is your point?

We play GSU every four years. Nothing wrong in not wanting to fund their upward swing. It's as much that as wanting to keep GT relevant because they'll just cannibalize each other's classes.

NC State, North Carolina, ECU, UCF
Not the greatest of names, but I find they qualify under decent.
Plus we have Clemson who > Georgia Tech by far
