I wouldn't be too quick on this one. I remember seeing a video a while back where something like 80% of people thought Washington DC was located in Washington state. People suck at geography. A few people actually correctly know Auburn is in Georgia.

Also, people on this site tend to overestimate the popularity of college football in the rest of the country. A majority of Americans couldn't even tell you who plays in the Iron Bowl.
