My parents still live there so I go once a year for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. It has improved, but it's not a place where I would live.

For me, in Louisiana it's:
Ruston followed by Natchitoches

I would also add I really like Eufaula Alabama

"Eufaula, AL"
Lake point Resort is pretty cool. They've held the state high school golf tournament there for years. Pretty good golf course with alligators all over the place. Lake Eufaula has some incredible bass fishing.

Me either. I'm in Oxford out of loyalty to my state. I'll probably crack and move to Atlanta or Nashville eventually.

I don't get why people say Fairhope, it's full of retired yankee assholes, rich snobs, and posers/wanna be people. I grew up in the area and that's my observations, Fairhope=Nohope.

Most people will assume this is a troll, but those are some really nice towns. Ruston has a lot of culture and a very highly educated citizenry. It's a little dull, for my tastes, and it's kind of remote. The fact that it's in a dry county kind of seals its fate as well.
Natchitoches is a beautiful little town. Their Christmas lights festival is stunning, and the town is rich in history (it's the oldest surviving settlement in Louisiana). However, it's entertainment options are few and far between and it's pretty remote (nearest large town is Alexandria (i.e. hell on Earth))

In my home state of Tennessee, gotta go with Germantown and Franklin, if we're counting suburbs

Been to both of those quite a few times. I like Topsail Beach a lot (I've got friends there, strawberry farmers), and Ocracoke Island, but they are not on par with Sullivan's Isle, Seabrook, Litchfield, Fripp Island, Pawley's Island, Isle of Palms.
In NC I guess both of (Topsail and Ocracoke) them might be considered nice little beach get-a-way towns, but NC's finest little beach town is probably Beaufort https://www.beaufortnc.org/.

Germantown is the nicest in Memphis, but I'm not sure about Tenn. There have gotta be better. Germantown's exclusivity works for it and against it.

Germantown is right smack dab in the middle of the biggest dump in the Southeast. Downtown Memphis proper to it's west, Raleigh-Bartlett to it's East, Covington, all that crap. Whitehaven to the south and what, Frayser to its north?
There are ten areas in the Nashville area alone that are nice than Germantown.
Jonesborough or Franklin ... those are the two nicest small towns in TN IMHO.

There's good places to live in Memphis.. You just have to live here for awhile to learn exactly where they are... Overton and Midtown are good areas.

covington is an hour north of germantown and bartlett is north of cordova, which is north of germantown. whitehaven isn't anywhere near germantown either. neither is frayser. and downtown memphis is fine. it's grown up a lot on the last 10 years. germantown is directly bordered by east memphis, a nice area, and collierville, another nice area. germantown's violent crime rate is well below the national average. last year there were zero murders, 2 reported rapes, 5 robberies, and 24 assaults. in a city of 40k people, pretty good imo. property crime is also far below the national average. crime overall is also below the national average. comparing germantown to the bad areas of memphis is extremely short-sighted. it's a suburb of a metro area that spans into arkansas. taking the bad areas of giant metro area and comparing it to a town in that huge area is ridiculous nashville has a ton of crime as well, but i'm not going to try to lump franklin into that

I tried to narrow down my answers.
I couldn't.
An easier question: places to eat Italian food in Italy?
