I just heard something about 20k people expected to pack a stadium today in Kansas City just to watch a World Cup game?
Over 16,000 showed up here in Atlanta a couple of months ago to watch the Women's National Team kick Russia's arse.

Miami will have a team soon. Probably 2017. They just have to figure out where they will play.
Pretty sure it will be very successful and may be an attendance leader in the U.S. right out of the gates.

Claure said in February 2014 that he hoped to have the team ready by 2017,[3] and that PortMiami was the preferred location for a stadium due to its proximity to American Airlines Arena, parking facilities and its "view of the ocean that few teams in the world have"[3] (a different site on the Miami waterfront, in what will become Museum Park, was chosen after the port site faced opposition from existing tenants, although that proposal too was rejected).

Being an official member of the American Outlaws, I'll be at the Good People bar on Southside Birmingham watching the Yanks

I'll be in a bar this afternoon yelling "U-S-A" at the top of my lungs with a bunch of other people in an SEC State. If that's somehow "not Southern" I'd like to avoid scrooster's ideas of Southern-ness as much as possible.

And I hope they have such horrible attendance that they disband or move the team in 5 years.

What a terrible fricking attitude.
But yeah, pretty fricking terrible attitude.

It would be awesome if men's soccer took off in the SEC. Imagine tailgating in the spring every Saturday. Would be fun.

There's a difference between college soccer and the USA in the World Cup. This is big. I would love to be part of that 20k.
this. why do people criticize others for caring about the world cup. It's a huge event.

Biggest event in the WORLD and it's only once every 4 years. It's awesome!

I guess it makes rednecks feel cool to say that soccer is gay.
Hell, every damn game so far has been awesome and I don't watch soccer ever.
Van Persi's (sp?) goal last week was incredible.

I went to watch the US team play a friendly at LP Field 4 years ago. It was badass, and I don't care about soccer. And Nashville is about as SEC as it gets. OP is dumb.

We should actually get rid of collegiate soccer. It hinders development and puts us behind the curve compared to the rest of the world.

I will be grilling out and drinking beer for the game. Kids are tubing down the river today or else I'd go out and watch it.
There is supposedly a group formed to bring an MLS team to Bham. I'd love to see them use the Hoover Met. Perfect repurposing of that facility and puts them right in the middle of their target market for soccer.

Using the Hoover Met would be a disaster and would never bring an MLS team.

I think the big watch party is on the Missouri side in P&L. KC has come a long way with soccer, from the days of an empty Arrowhead and then playing in a minor league baseball park on the Kansas side. Now they have a great facility in KCK that sells out every game and a team that won MLS last year.

There will be at least three dozen soccer fans at Smoke & Barrel on Dickson.
