Its proven true time and again across multiple programs in multiple conferences in the last 15 years or so. The single most difficult offense to run effectively at the college level is a run heavy playaction pass scheme because it requires such a high level of talent and execution to run well. Its why so many of the Big Ten offenses largely suck arse every year and why everyone falsely believes their defenses are so much better than everyone else's.

Petrino wasn't a good recruiter but he had good offenses.
Still couldn't beat Bama though because he never had a good defense. Same reason aggy didn't beat Bama last year.
