Mallett has had the fortune/misfortune to sit behind Tom Brady. Name a QB recently drafted who would have unseated Brady.
Notice no team has traded for him yet....

you are saying that Texas hand picking the state still hasn't been able to put together a "solid" defense in years.
I'm simply saying I don't want to do the research but you'd be very ignorant to think Texas doesn't put out elite defensive talent.

Notice NE hasn't put him up for trade yet either. The was some pre-draft speculation this year that he might be involved, but evidently NE didn't see anything they wanted to trade for.

If its such an "ignorant" statement, then it would be easy to disprove with minimum research.
It isn't because it is an accurate statement, Texas HS football centers around offense, not producing elite defensive players, hence teams that rely on Texas to fill their rosters all share in common the theme of good offenses and out right shitty defenses.

NE has had him up for trade since he was drafted. Ever since Cassell they've acquired backup QB's so they can hopefully trade them.

No it wouldn't. The only schools that will have a ton of HS players from Texas on one defense is teams from Texas.

I agree it centers on offense. That being said go look at some of the recruits that come out of Texas that play Defense.

They are all over Texas, Oklahoma, and the rest of the big12, it shouldn't be that hard to find one.

I'm not talking about how the recruiting sites give them stars, I'm talking about actual results on the field, if anything you are showing just how over-rated recruiting from Texas for defense is. Better players can be found all over the US to field a better defense than relying solely on Texas for the talent.

well why don't they just cut him then? i guess they didn't feel like trading him for murray.

Belichick on Mallett trade: " something we're not interested in, Ryan has done a good job for us. he's improved tremendously as a qb & as a football player & we have a lot of confidence in him."

If you want to know some elite HS players (top 10 in the state) from Texas that play D:
2015:
LB Malik Jefferson 5*
DT Daylon Mack 5* (Texas a&m)
CB Kendall Sheffield 4*
S Deionte Thompson 4* (Bama)
2014:
DE Myles Garrett 5* (Texas a&m)
CB Tony Brown 5* (Bama)
DE Solomon Thomas 4* (Stanford)
CB Arrion Springs 4* (Oregon)
DB Edward Paris 4* (LSU)
SA Jamal Adams 4* (LSU)
DE Derick Roberson 4* (Texas)
That's just the last two years.

You and I both know how hard it is to have a good Defense with the offenses they play in the Big 12. Not to mention the SEC has a good habit of grabbing the best players from Texas.

Because why release a guy if you can use him as a cheap backup?

I'm not interested in recrootin' rankins, I'm interested in results on the field.
What you are showing is the claimed "elite" talent are not going to teams to play defense with other Texans, so you are going to try really really hard to prove Arkansas' defensive success is reliant on recruiting Texans to field a defense.

It's called leverage Dale. Notice that quote was from after the draft. The same draft they grabbed a 2nd round QB and failed to trade Mallett.

What I do know is Texas produces a large number of prospects, good defense can be found reliant on other equal producers in numbers from Florida and California, not a single one can be found with similar numbers of Texas recruits.

I didn't say that. My only point was that Texas has better HS football than other states in the area. I think it is important for Arky to have some Texas defenders. Would I expect any team to have 9/11 starters from Texas? No.

They didn't fail to trade Mallett, they failed to have offered to them an equal value to their perceived worth of Mallett.
Mallett is going into the final year of his contract, as a FA he has the opportunity to go anywhere he wants, his value would never be lower to NE, yet they passed on several picks in up coming drafts to keep him for this season and in hopes of extending his contract.

Texas is where you go to find DBs and DEs, nothing else on that side of the ball are plentiful.

Even Oklahoma has gone more national in recruiting defensive players. You look over the last 5-8 years at how Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and TVUs defenses have fallen off.
If I have a choice of a 4* DT out of Texas and a 3* DT out of Florida/Arkansas/Louisiana/Mississippi/Georgia....I'm going with the 3* kid that's tougher.

Well, perhaps you can tell us why they haven't then?
ETA: Personally, I would like to see him get out from behind Brady, go somewhere else and get a legitimate shot at a starting job now. He's been there as a backup long enough.
