Where the OT portrays themselves as some regular Usain Bolts, I appreciate that the OTB can own the status as the old injured former HS athletes who may have to have knee replacements by 45.

Uh I mean I ran 35 miles at a 4 min pace. While getting blown by my 9.8/10 gf and trading bonds

Kentucky just ranked 48th on some list of cycle friendly states. I'm not trying to get killed.
And I'm not trying to get you killed . I don't know, but my guess is those rankings are based on miles of bicycle lanes. We don't have 1 foot of bicycle lane here but we DO have the Vicksburg Military Park, which is outstanding for bike riding. I've no idea where you are in Kentucky but I'd look for a large park.
I only brought it up because you mentioned knees. Bike riding is much easier on knees than running (duh) or even walking.

I have an elliptical because it's easier on my knees.

If you're serious about running - Asics gel kayano. Get "last years model" online to avoid the hefty price tag.

Are those good for other activities besides running? I'd like some diversity.

We have bike lanes here but there's a serious love/hate relationship between cyclist and motorist. I'm not a serious enough cyclist to not get ran over by the guys training for the Ironman or the cars around here.
I appreciate it though. Once it gets warm enough I'll start swimming more which is always a great workout with little to no joint impact.

I'm a 22 year old that a sudden slight incline can cause my ankle to turn and send me to the ground
I am not too thrilled to throw on my clunky ankle braces before I go run, so I will usually stick with the bike.

If it is all about just staying fit, I suggest the following :
Swimming = low impact and good for lungs
Riding = legs of steel
Dancing = good overall cardio workout
Sex = only exercise you finish with a smile and look forward to the repiition

good deal. Swimming seems like a great workout.

The issue with treadmill and cycling is how it affect your joints when you get into your 50's and 60's.

Well I got a while before I hit those benchmarks. I'm just trying to get into a healthy lifestyle. College is over and I can't slam beers and rip cigs all day and night.

No doubt, just keep it in the back of your mind. The damage you do now can not be fixed later and replacement knees are not as good as advertised.

Good advice. Thanks cheese

Best shape I was ever in was 4 years ago when I was swimming 2 miles every morning and playing 3-4 hours of basketball at night.
Now idk what to do bc my ankles are shot (they creak and pop every step I take) and I don't have a swimming pool to swim in anymore. There's nothing I hate more than mindlessly running or riding a bike.

Dogs are the answer. Dogs who can run. The more, the less mindless your exercise routine becomes.

I am a vagina and elliptical. Too many years of track and cross country makes running pretty painful.

Are you suggesting trespassing as exercise?

Within the city limits here most dogs are restrained/fenced. Out in the county... not so much. I loved county dogs who loved to run. They were fun and definitely made the ride more enjoyable.
The funniest thing I've ever seen on a bike was a big Dalmation taking a good cutoff angle on me, focusing on me and not where he was going. He went BAM! into a bricked-up mailbox at full speed. I should probably feel guilty about this. Probably.

I laughed out loud imagining this.
