I'm going to take a wild guess that most on this board are too young to have a clue what you're talking about.
Not me. I was watching it live. I don't even remember who it was against but I was pulling for Bama at the time (before I knew better...) and I remember Teague coming out of nowhere to make that play.

I remember watching the 93 Sugar Bowl live.
It was a lot like the 2013 BCS Championship. Even though 90 percent of the country hates Bama, they hated Miami more.

Nah. Miami had a team that could have beaten Alabama - Notre Dame did not. The 2013 BCS National Championship Game was probably the biggest mismatch in the history of the BCS. Alabama just had their way with Notre Dame, marching up and down the field against them on offense, while not giving an inch of ground on defense until the game was well without of reach.
In the 1993 Sugar Bowl, Alabama's offense drove the length of the field on Miami a grand total of one time. 24 of Alabama's 34 points in that game were a direct result of turnovers.

I do think the Honey Badger could've pulled something like that off.
Id say so. HB had a good knack for making plays like that. I think I remember Teague saying one time that they used to practice stripping the ball like that all the time during practice but that it was a player directed thing not the coaches actually coaching it.

I'd say half of that is instinct and half comes from being taught and practicing it.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Most guys in that scenario are just trying to get the guy on the ground. It takes a lot of football instincts to make a play like that, because as I said the natural reaction is just tackle the guy. Mathieu is probably the best at it that's come through this league. He was conscientious and calculated on the field.

Teague was a senior and this was his last game of his career. How much could Stallings have done to him?
True, and actually, the opposite happened. In this game Teague played his way into a first round draft pick...the last pick of the first round by Green Bay. Aside from the strip and is pick-six, Teague made hit after hit on special teams.

Jay Barker had an astounding 18 yards passing. Of course Alabama's ground game produced 267 yards. Miami's only touchdown was on a kick return. Gino and Lamar got their asses kicked up and down the field all night long.

Bama did something that game that I thought was key.
They had all their best DB's on kick coverage.Aside from the garbage time return by Miami,Bama's coverage got there about the time the ball did all night.
George Teague is also beloved in Dallas for knocking Terrell Owens off the star.

That play was easy for me. Lamar was slow as shite - probably hard to carry that big mouth. I just ran him down and took the ball. I took the ball away from him.

Probably one of the worst efforts I have even seen from a QB. 4 of 13 for 18 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.
Miami actually out gained Alabama that night, 326 yards to 285 yards. Yet we still won by 21 points. That defense set our offense up in some good positions that night.

Just wondering. Is the ability to run down a receiver full stride and strip the ball away an innate quality or can it be taught?
You don't see it often (or ever).
It is a special gift. Antoine Carter had it when he ran down Mark Ingram in 2010.

Of course it is taught. You work on pursuit angle drills as a secondary in virtually every practice. The strip of the ball is taught as well. Once you are in proper position you "Rake all three", meaning the one he's carrying and the two God gave him. The key to that play by Teague was not just the strip, but that he held on to the ball after the strip. If Thomas had been carrying the ball in the sideline arm, the strip likely never happens, though.
Incredible effort play by Teague.

Not so sure 'bout that...Thomas also ran on the track team while he was at the U. Think this was another case where track speed isn't the same as football speed (running with full pads)...as Tommy Johnson mentioned after that game, Thomas not only got ran down from behind, he got ran down from behind badly...

I was at the game. Such a great night. We played in the Super Dome twice that year. Played Tulane there in the regular season. I would bet that was the last time Bama traveled to a non-BCS school's home stadium

And two picks as I recall. He was definitely not an asset, and yet he's still riding that glory.

You just had to . .
. . Ingram was in traffic. Lamar Thomas had nothing but green in front of him.
