Honestly? Yes. I've seen far more embarrassing fans in the UA fanbase. I have many more friends that are Bama fans and would rather go to a game in TTown though.

Lived in Alabama 7 years. Bama fans are worse - an Auburn fan never tried to run me off the road because of my LSU tag.

Auburn is one of the poorest universities in the conference, ranked below Alabama in most every measure, its AD runs a deficit and has to beg people to buy season tickets. They have to create the false image to make themselves feel better, and because Alabama overshadows them in everything they do. It's not a new thing either, that inferiority complex was established long ago when UA was set up as the flagship and AU was set up as a farm/tractor school.

I see many Auburn fans looking down at Alabama fans. Opposing fans, is there really a difference between bammers and barners?
I don't really think you can make an analogy like that. You are all definitely Alabamians; you just root for different schools.
I have been to both campuses. Just generally speaking, Auburn fans are friendlier and more generous, fun-loving and accomodating.
Bama fans as a whole are friendly also, but some (not all, some) are incredibly arrogant and can't resist strutting around like they are somehow superior to everyone.
It's in their nature or something to see how vain and annoying they can be - just to get a rise out of you.
Perfect example: In 2009 I saw two adult males inside of a makeshift cage/tailgating spot, pulling a corndog on a string in front of us as we walked by.
I wanted to say "Duuude, WTF is WRONG with you, are you a child?" But instead, I managed a very trite - "Yeah, you people sure picked up on your deadly enemy's (Auburn) cut and paste of a Nebraska-Iowa nickname as having ANY relevance at all to LSU. You sure did go to a lot of trouble to look monumumentally STUPID."
But, to this day, why I generally have a disdain for some Bama fans (Again, SOME, not all) is when we were welcomed in 2005 and 2007, and even a few in 2009 and 11, with the most filthy, foul Katrina "jokes" one could imagine. I will never forgive them for that.
Had I made "jokes" about the tornadoes in 2011, I'm sure they would not have liked it either.

Let me give a run down of this thread.
Most Bama fans agree that they're equal with Auburn.
A few Bama fans agree that their fans are worse.
Every Auburn fan agrees that Bama fans are worse.
Some neutral fans agree that Bama and Auburn fans are equal.
Some neutral fans agree that Bama fans are worse.
So the opinion of the board overall is that Bama fans are worse.

Auburn fans are more secure, intelligent, and pleasant in my experience. This doesn't apply to all Bama fans, however. Y'alls image is just brought down by the vast amount of bandwagon fans. If y'all were to go on a 20 year losing spurt, the image of an average Bama fan would significantly change.

Here's my only observation/contribution:
Have you noticed that the Bama fans in this thread are bargaining to settle on us being equals?

Of course it's fair, they are rivals aren't they?
Just because a rival views you as something doesn't mean it's necessarily true tho

White people are haters.
Black people steal.
Brown people are lazy.
Yellow people are great at math.
Orange people are inbred.
Orange and Blue people are college graduates.
Crimson and White people are uneducated rednecks.
Stereotypes are fun.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconrolleyes.gif)

Any Alabama fan who lives in this state and is not a redneck can clearly see a difference....otherwise their head is up their arse.

Yes. That is a fair statement.
I have been to both campuses, most recently Auburn in '12 and Bama in '11.
We really enjoyed tailgating with Aubies and all of the Tiger fans we met were friendly.
The only Aubie I have a beef with is the one who decided to cut and paste "corndogs' from Nebraska and Iowa message boards in the bizarre delusion that this had some infintesimal relevance to LSU.
Tuscaloosa is pretty cool also. Most of the fans were friendly.
However, since my 2005 and 2007 visits were welcomed by the worst Katrina insults I have ever heard (even worse than Bears' fans), I no longer consider all bama fans as friendly.
Had I made similar "jokes" about the tornadoes in 2011 in Tuscaloosa, I seriously doubt they would have thought highly of me either.

Why is this still going on? The question was
So, taking the AU/UA flaming out of the thread, it seems that the good majority of neutral fans have said that UA fans are generally worse. Don't ask a question you don't want to hear the answer to

People who cheer for Auburn generally have ties to the university, like being an alumni, having family or friends who are alumni, growing up in the town, etc. Auburn doesn't carry the state name in its title, so people who grow up without an affiliation to either institution aren't likely to grow any sense of loyalty to the school. This pretty much results in Auburn fan having less in the way of numbers but the average Auburn fan is usually pretty solid.
On the other hand, like with many state schools, Alabama picks up a whole bunch of fans from carrying the name of the state alone. Combine that with the bandwagon effect and the fact that a lot of these people live in a state with some really uneducated areas, and you've got a lot of people that are frankly pretty freaking stupid pulling for the team to make them feel better about their own unsatisfying lives.
The Alabama fans that I know that either attended to school, lived in Tuscaloosa and had friends go to the school, or had in some way, shape, or form a quantifiable attachment to the institution are usually knowledgeable, cool people that are no better or worse than any other sports fan. It's just that bandwagon fans from uneducated areas suck noodles, and Alabama unfortunately has plenty of those.

Same group of people. The fans who choose to root for Bama are usually the kind who want to be asscociate with a winner, the ones who choose to root for AU are the kind who feel they don't deserve any better, sort of like the battered wife syndrome.

Strange thread. Bama fans have spent decades calling AU fans jealous and insecure, and here is a 23 page thread with bama fans wanting to argue that we're all the same.
