There's a chance Gabe Wright will switch to defensive end this year. Everyone remembers the weight loss, right? He played at over 300 last year, and he was down to roughly 284 the other day...and he still has plenty of time to lose some more. He could be down to around 275, easily, by the start of the season.

I doubt this is a quick change just because LaDarius Owens is out.

I wonder if he moves into a Nosa Egaue DT/DE hybrid role. Michael Bennett does it in the league and just made some cash money after his contract year in Seattle

Also, how the frick did we get Gabe to stop play COD and eating Doritos long enough to lose weight?

I do not know what they're cooking up with Gabe working at DE but I dare say this is not exactly what they have in mind.

Good question...

The new regime must have been very stern about that.

I dont see it. Much more likely that they just move Daniel over to DE instead of moving a SR who has played well for the most part at DT.

1. Jason Dufner lives the dream. He just strolls in and out of the AD whenver he wants. Brother in law knows him from AU and says that he rents out two boxes for FB games. One for friends and one for himself so he can watch the game in peace

2. I wouldn't be surprised if Wright is both a)Reworking his body to pack on some muscle and improve conditioning b) Working himself into being a more versatile DE/DT guy like MBennet as i said

Remember Jernigan was only about 292-295 and was absolutely dominate in the NC game

Elijah Daniel has been at defensive end this spring, as well as all of last year.

He played DT the majority of the time last season when he was in the game, especially during the second half of the season. I know he has been playing DE this spring, but the word last year was that he was likely going to grow into a DT moving forward. Just pointing out that it makes a lot more sense to just have Daniel (or even Lambert) focus on DE than it does to move Wright over in his final year.

Elijah Daniel is a tweener right now. Seems like the staff is trying to decide if they want him to keep getting bigger and turn into a DT or stay his size and play DE

I don't remember that.

I do remember this.

I do agree with this. As it stands, I want Monty Adams and Gabe Wright starting at defensive tackle, with Carl Lawson and one of DeVonte Lambert and Elijah Daniel at defensive end.

It's spring ball, if you want to cross train some guys, this is the time to do it. Garrett at safety could be a fun package with Moncrief back there too.

I would assume te package for wright and Adams at end may be a package for Arky and LSU offense. Instead of bear, just 4 big DL.

Post from someone who attended today's practice.

was about as good a first Spring in pads as anyone could ever imagine. This team definitely has a swagger about them, and a togetherness that is obvious! Little sloppy in the passing game, but that's to be expected. It's clear they are working to improve the pass game, in case it's needed. After LSU '13, it was only needed sparingly...

Overall, the talent level now is night and day from where we were when Coach Mal got here. We look like a team with NFL players all over the field, or an NFL team??

Marshall is the man! Period! He and JJ are very close and pull for each other every rep. Barber looked very good at RB, as well as CAP. IMO, Barber is better.

The WR are absolutely FREAKISH! DW made 3 circus catches today. All the upperclassmen are constantly in his ear, coaching and encouraging. Sammy might be our best player behing 14. He and Dismukes were held out of scrimmage portion to give others reps. With Louis, Stevens, Bray, Davis, Truitt, Walker........I mean, I just can't see another SEC team who can match our talent at WR. OL all look the part. Just BIG, physical, well coached dudes that will flat get after your tail!

Defense looked very good! I'd say they got the edge in the scrimmage, but not by much. 2 deep across the front and all 8 can play! They are looking at different combo's for personnel match ups on run v pass situations. Moncreif is an impressive looking dude! Garrett, Cass, Frost, Whitehead...Just a group that can really fly around and get to the football. CEJ and his staff are just a heckuva bunch of coaches. The whole staff is from top to bottom really. It's clear that the kids believe in these guys, and love playing for them. Great teachers and communicators!

Too much darn sunshine in here, but it's very clear that Auburn will be very good again in '14.

I see early on the coaches are trying to get Garrett on the field. Garret would be a head hunter at Safety. He asked the coaches to move him to Safety in 2012

Someone is summarizing reporter hype statements. The only person that would talk about practice is someone in the SID department.

the OP is a HS coach, IIRC. He's not summarizing, he was very likely at the practice on saturday.
