It is surprising how many New Orleanians go to Bama. DKE fraternity is almost all Mobile & New Orleans dudes.

Ehh, its just the "thing to do" right now. The kids want to get out of state and do something different than LSU, the Greek scene at Alabama is rivaled by few, their football team is highly successful right now and such. It's cyclical. It used to be that Ole Miss was the big school (and it still is), but Alabama may now have passed Ole Miss in the New Orleans.

I've heard UA's Chinese department is second to none. That's a huge draw to those interested in scholarly pursuits.

This is truly comical. The majority of NOLA area and SE LA kids still stay in state. LSU also has one of the oldest, most traditional, and most beneficial (to the students and the community) Greek systems in America. And LSU is the winningest CFB program in America since 2005.

Alabama is two states over. There are still a few students who go out of state, some to Ole Miss, some to Bama, etc. but actually, Catholic and Private High Schools in New Orleans are some of the best in the nation, with test scores similar to those in the Norhteast. Many go to Ivy League Schools.

It was like that at Bama when I was there 20 years ago.
