You can blame Mike for some of the lack of talent, but he has had APR issues to deal with, along with our two best players leaving early last year
He inherited a mess. 10+ years of a mess. Lost scholarships because of previous coaches. Stuck with players previous coaches recruited.
Those players graduate this year. While not helping the program with wins, they help get our APR score up high enough to afford Mike the opportunity in the future to show guys the door if they're not producing.
As a comparison....Bret just showed Turner, Hartsfield, and 3 others the door just a month ago. Mike hasn't been able to do that because of our APR score. Our next punishment would be being docked practice time.
Look, our program was literally in the shitter when Mike got here. While you only see what you see on television during games, there is much more to this program right now than wins and losses. The team GPA is the highest it's ever been. We are on pace to graduate Wade, Haydar, Gulley, Scott, and Clarke this year. Those are great bonuses towards our APR that can afford Mike to make roster movements going forward he cannot make right now.

I get all that
So why cant even these decent to below average players be coached enough to make a few more baskets at Georgia?
That game made me think Mike lacked the killer instinct

You're wasting your time. He doesn't get it and I don't think he wants to. You can't discuss the APR problems with someone that posts

I think Litigator, myself, and others made it pretty clear in the other thread that your "entitlement" bullshite is absolutely/utterly incorrect
Idk what generation you are but you will be sucking our dicks in 20 years. We also appreciate the opportunities all your generations frick ups present.

A good coach can line up his players and beat you
A great coach can line up his players and beat you and then line up your players and beat you
Well...Mike doesnt even meet the first criteria. I want to believe but all I see is a bunch of talk about "40 min of hell"

Porker, how about telling us specifically what you think Mike is doing wrong? Saying something like "he lacks killer instinct" is really meaningless.
Assess the problems with the team/coaching style as you see them. If you know much about basketball, I think you'll find that a lot of it comes down to not having the level of talent and experience we need.
There are a few great coaches out there who seem to be able to win regardless of their players. Literally, a few. And we aren't about to go out and hire one of them.

I see no offense at the start of most of our games, except wild 3s. Penetrate and feed portis. He should have 15 at every halftime
I see no good plays after time outs
We never take players out after failing to run the offense. Except madden at UGA
Harris plays. Shouldnt happen
Williams plays. Shouldnt happen.
Portis and kingsley arent on the floor together ever. All you need to beat 90% of the SEC is decent bigs. But rather than take advantage of our size, we sit them and let frickers like Wade and Kikko play

I'm on the fence right now with this season.
It looks like the team is regressing. If we finish this season with a 6-10 conference record and no postseason again.. I can't honestly say I would be upset if we had a coaching change.
It doesn't matter style of play a team has if they keep LOSING. Nobody enjoys watching a team you love lose.
This is year 3. I feel like APR or not the team should be playing better than it is.

Also, say what you will about killer instinct. I think thats what we need to win on the road. Someone to tell the kids that they can step on the throat after they have a team on their backs
Ie up 8 with 5 to play at UGA

We also don't appear to have a half-court offense or defense. When we can't play our way we fold and there is no helping it until time out where we let the other team rest enough to try to leg with us again. Then opponents slow down to breathe and rebound us to death until the clock says zero
Posted on 2/1/14 at 11:11 pm to Porker Face
If this team would rebound we would win
Put in our bigs. Kingsley is our best rebounder. Giving up 6th and 7th chance points kills us

Exactly. But who are we supposed to play? You just named off a third of our team. This is a system that relies on depth and wearing the other team down.
Do you think it's Mike's fault that Harris didn't have enough awareness to realize we needed a 3, not a 2? Or that Clarke missed a wide open dunk that would have won the Florida game for us?
Posted on 2/1/14 at 11:15 pm to The Sultan of Swine
Harris, yes. He recruited him, he is responsible.

I understand that you and others on here, truly believe that the APR issue is the one of the main reasons we suck at basketball.
Well sir, this APR issue is not unique to just Arkansas and I also hate to tell you, other programs have problems too, but they seem to win.
Kentucky's roster turns over just about every year, but they seem to win at a much higher rate than the Hogs.
I appreciate the fact that some find an excuse, grab a hold of it, and recite it every night before bed, just so they can wake up and tell themselves "we'll be ok, just wait until next year, we'll be better then".
Like I tell people everyday
No excuses, just solutions.

Kentucky has 5+ McDonald's AA on their team every year, Arkansas has had 2 in 10 years.
Kentucky doesn't have APR issues, their players that leave do so in good academic standing and go to the pros, which has an exemption in the APR, the ones that stay for 4 years graduate. Pel's players transferred to other schools, which takes away points in the APR.

Meh, I voted for Obama, am in the military, and I support Mike Anderson.
I'll say this...there is a lot of sentimentality in that support. I was one of the people who felt that Mike should have gotten the job after Nolan left (or was forced out I should say). That also being said, here is the way I look at it, mostly just talking points:
-Mike took over a dumpster fire at UAB, and turned them into a damn solid program. I mean, UAB was a better program than we were for those years he was there than we were for the five years before.
-He inherited an absolute shite-show at Missouri after Quin Snyder was forced out. There was a lot of clamoring in Columbia to fire Anderson after he went 16-16 and dismissed some of the best players on the team for conduct detrimental to the team. However, the next year he took them to the Elite 8. The team was rebuilt slowly before they were pretty stacked.
-We are dealing with APR issues and tons of other shite. As much as people want to say they don't care, that does buy a coach some time.
-Most of our problems (esp. on the road) seem like we run out of gas offensively. Depth will change that and allow us to play more effectively on defense and offense.
-Heath couldn't do it in 3 years. Pelphrey couldn't do it in 3 years. Given the state of our program now, what makes you think getting into this hire and fire cycle every 3 years is going to help? Best thing to do is ride this thing out, and see where it goes before jumping off the wagon.

It wouldn't be reasonable to fire MA this season. He needs at least two more years and two more recruiting classes to see if he can produce anything resembling improvement vs Pel and Heath, which seems to be the measuring stick on this site.
If Portis wasn't from Arkansas, MA most likely doesn't sign anything higher than a concensus 3 star recruit in three classes.
Let that sink in.
MA has an outdated system, a weak staff, and it appears he's losing the respect of some of his players.
On paper this 47th ranked recruiting class coming in is also going in the wrong direction. It was a weak year for pre-sold in-state talent, MA relatives and close family friends.
