From what I am being told, Saban and Nuss had a very frank conversation about Saban's expectations for the offense next year with a young, inexperienced QB coming in. Saban wanted a run heavy offense centered around Henry and Yeldon that could play ball control and keep his D off the field. Nuss wanted to stay balanced and audition for a HC job. This opportunity came up at UM that offered Nuss a big raise and Saban told him he had his blessing to take it. Probably best for both sides that Nuss left.

Disagree. Bama has some issues with the hurry up but I don't see the issue with mobile QBS

This.
Manziel and Marshall are the only QB's in saban's tenure with a lot of success on the ground. One is a special player and the other can fly and operates in a system that disguises where the ball is going
Newton, Tebow, Robinson were all held in check on the ground

Now this makes sense. This might hurt stopping the run a bit, but pressure on the QB, and being able to run down the QB, is a much bigger plus.
We are currently built to beat teams like LSU. LSU is currently built to beat teams like A&M.
It really comes to match ups some times. I think we have slightly addressed this through recruiting. We had 2 freshmen get a lot of minutes on the D line this year and I think one of them, A'Shawn Robinson, finished the year leading the team in sacks. Da'Shawn Hand will hopefully be able to step in and to the same.
Plus the drop off from Hightower and Upshaw to guys like Adrian Hubbard has to be noted as well.
We are also very reliant on our corners being able to match up man to man and lock WR's down. The talent level at that position was also no where near the level it has been in previous years.

So the Nuss move is unrelated?
Most likely.

Okay, so it seems my OP isn't quite right.
The Nuss move is completely separate from any D issue. The OC opening will be on Coaches Changes board for discussion. So for the D, is it fair to say a little size will be sacrificed for a bit more quickness and speed?

We've been adjusted to these issues for two cycles now (13 and 14)
A'Shawn Robinson, Jonathan Allen, Reuben Foster, Dee Liner, Darius Paige, Hootie Jones Da'Shawn Hand, Christian Miller, Ronnie Clark, Shaun Hamilton, Keith Holcombe, DJ Pettway, and Jaran Reed all signify a shift in defensive philosophy in the same system.

Ditto for us, depending on Jennings progress.

A&M getting 600+ yards
I think this more of sign how terrible the 2nd CB position was for us.
You have to remember after they jumped out to a 14-0 game we basically shut down their offense until a Yeldon fumble on the 1 yard line. If he scores there we go up either 21 or 28 points I can't remember.
Instead he fumbles and JFF hits that 95 yarder to Evens down the sideline.

Which is what makes it so tough to go undefeated in the SEC. You need a defense that can stop teams like aTm and AU and also one that can stop LSU, UGA, USC, etc. The personnel needed is very different. I honestly have no idea how to build a defense that is great at stopping the pro style and the HUNH.

Okay, appreciate the clarification regarding Nuss. It'll be interesting to see who the new OC will be.
And kudos to Saban for adapting to changing reality...very Bryant like.
And Swoopin.....suck a dick.

Most likely. The Sunseri injury hurt what we did a bit against these type of teams too.

This is the primary reason for our defensive struggles this year. Our corners were middle of the pack SEC level. They were average at best. Nothing even close to what we are accustomed to. When you can't trust your corners to lock down a WR, it changes everything else you do defensively.

You don't. You commit to one type of defensive philosophy and have your offense ready to beat the teams that your defense can't stop. Which is why you need a potent offense along with a good defense to win championships these days.

As a rule young corners (in college or pro) don't look great their first year or so. Kareem Jackson, Marquis Johnson, Dre Kirkpatrick, and Dee Millinar all looked bad their freshman years. Hell Marquis didn't look great until 2009 and he absolutely shut down Alshon Jeffery 4 plays in a row.

While true Dion Belue was a very serviceable corner, but he is a 2nd corner on a great defense. He isn't nearly at the level of any of the #1 guys we have had.
Cyrus Jones was just painful to watch at times. Whenever there was a sort of break down on defense the replay would often show him just looking completely lost.

Find very big@strong guys that can run like deer...two deep. Since guys like Clowney come along once in a blue moon the short answer is...you don't.
imo

UA's issue is Bama can't defend a legitimate dual threat QB worth squat.
Did you not watch us play Michigan two years ago?

You build a defense to stop both because it isn't over specialized to stop either. Mis-evals on the DL/pre injury Pagan being much faster is the cause. We are currently paying for Davis and Rumph being sticks in the mud with DL recruiting.
