Who would win and why?

Bama, they would not be able to stop us from running.

2004 USC would probably have won. I never thought we were that great last year. We could have lost 3 games

Bama. USC had to vacate those games

'04 USC was great on offense. I feel like it'd be a shootout.
Both teams would get fricked by '01 Miami though.

The team that barely got by Boston college and didnt play near the SOS of Bama would destroy 2012 Bama? Miami played a way overrated nebraska team. I bet 2012 Notre Dame was better than 01 Nebraska.

2004 USC = 2012 Georgia. Great offense, really good individual players on defense, but not necessarily elite as a unit. Surprisingly that '04 USC team a few close games, looking at their season, a lot more than you would think.
It think that game would look really similar to the SEC Championship last year. Very close and a shootout.
'01 Miami might be the most talented team of the last 25 years. If you can win in spite of Larry Coker, you are really, really good.

Take off the crimson glasses
01 Miami was on another level. The NFL talent they had on the field was insane. Even the great teams struggle with subpar teams at some point on the schedule.

01 Miami is held up because the amount of talent that did make it in the NFL but at the same time teams are not necessarily the sum of their parts.

They were not by any means incredibly dominant. We are not discussing who was the most talented group. None of those future NFL players on that Miami team were pro bowlers already In 2001. Ill take off the crimson glasses if you explain how 01 Miami was on another level not counting talent. 95 Nebraska was more dominant with less talent.
So 2001 Nebraska is better than 2012 notre dame even though they got pummeled 63-32 by a 10-3 Colorado team? Just because Notre Dame got thumped by a good Bama team DOES NOT mean Notre Dame just flat out sucked

Pitt and Stanford should have beat them. You saw them play. What else can I say? They weren't that good.
Now, I apologize for the hijack
I just feel like the large majority of posters, even non-Bama fans, will tend to agree that 01 Miami is possibly the most talented team to come through college football in many years. And more often than not, the talent will win out on the field. Just my opinion.

Of the legit claims to all time GOAT, 2001 Miami has a case but probably one of the worst. The 2011 Tide has a higher claim..... it's all moot though since everyone knows the best was the 1995 Nebraska
Remember, the 01 Canes won in the BIG EAST and played 0 top 10 teams until the title game vs a joke. Also, they were coached by Larry Coker.,... if they played the 2013 Tide it would still be a game in the 4th.

They almost lost but they didnt, that was a 11-2 rose bowl champ Stanford team. But they shouldn't have been played so close by a 6-7 Pitt team. And actually, more often than not, the smarter team wins. Having talent helps, but there have been plenty of situations over the years where the more talented team gets out coached and outplayed. Great example-New England patriots. So saying 01 Miami is the greatest ever (because of their level of talent) is lame

Also, what must be remembered is that schemes and some techniques have evolved since 2001. 01 Miami never played anyone like Johnny Football, or any of these modern prolific spread offenses. And they never played a team even close to being as good 09/11/12 or even 2013 Bama.
2011 Bama would eat up that 1995 Nebraska option. I love watching game film of 95 Nebraska. Frazier was truly an all time great player. He was Incredibly tough, a great leader, a winner, and a good person off the field. He is great to the fans. But from watching film, in my honest opinion, 95 Nebraska does not match up well with 2011 Bama.

95 Nebraska beats 01 Miami 9/10 times
01 Miami and 2011 Bama split series 5/5

No they don't. Considering the era you can argue that 95 Nebraska was the best team of all time, but they only had one player that weighed more than 300 pounds.
In some alternate universe where you could pit great teams as they were against each other then any team pre 2000 would have a tough time. In fact 2011 bama is probably the technical best team of all-time.

Imagine the 2011 team with Julio Ingram and Dareus.

That would be the 2010 team

2001 Miami had stupid talent.
Some notables:
RB: Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, Willis Mcgahee
FB: Nahjeh Davenport, Quadtrine Hill
WR: Andre Johnson, Roscoe Parrish, Kellen Winslow
TE: Jeremy Shockey
OL: Bryant Mckinnie, Vernon Carey
DL: Vince Wilfork
LB: DJ Williams, John Vilma, Roger Mcintosh
DB: Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Antrelle Rolle, Phillip Buchanon, Mike Rumph, Kelly Jennings

I would also think Saban would be an X factor. 2001 Miami was certainly the greatest collection of talent making an impact in the modern NFL but a lot more goes into consideration. Because like he said, 2010 was easily Saban's most talented team but lost the 2nd most amount of games in a season any Saban team at Bama has.
