Right, so you'd look back at it and say, "oh wow, we accomplished a lot in that football season, beat more ranked teams than any other team in the country, and won an SEC and national title, but I'm not proud of it because we stumbled a couple times along the way."
Yeah, you're an idiot
Right, if I was on a team that lost twice to teams who were not better at one single position on the football field (except Ark at RB) I would not be that happy about my team's performance regardless of whatever trophy some computers decided to give me thanks to others incompetence. That team was stacked and had no business losing those two games and should be ashamed that they did.
If that makes me an idiot so be it.

going undefeated with an easier schedule isn't better. Just different.
You beat 4 top 15 teams, 2004 AU beat 4 top 15 teams. You beat 1 top 10 team, 2004 AU beat 2 top 10 teams. Both teams beat 5 teams that finished the season ranked. Difference is you lost to two unranked teams. You also had several other close calls where 2004 AU crushed everyone after LSU.

Keep patting yourself on the backed for beating those "ranked" juggernauts that include 6-6 South Carolina and 7-6 alabama. Neither of which finished the season anywhere near the top 25.
Every SEC team you beat had least 4 losses. Your best win was against a 3 loss Virginia Tech team.
I knew LSU 2007 was a sham but upon further examination it's even more pitiful than I thought.

Since when is a onepeat champion a dynasty?
Posted on 12/17/13 at 9:09 am to geauxnavybeatbama
Nebraska was the greatest dynasty, period.
Miami next, then Bama.
GOAT? Has to be Nebraska 95. And IMO regardless of if Saban was at LSU or Bama, Osborne was better.
Like I said.....

Gotta go with Nebraska in the 90s.

FSU '87 - '00

- Won the ACC or tied for first ('95 and '98) since joining in '92
- 9 straight BCS bowl, Bowl Alliance or Bowl Coalition games (not including 2 fiesta, 1 sugar, 1 citrus, and 1 cotton prior to creation)
- 11-3 bowl record over that time

Greatest dynasties in my lifetime:
1. Miami 1983-1992: Four NCs and nearly three more.
2. Nebraska 1994-97: Three NCs
3. FSU 1987-2000: 2 NCs and top 5 every year
4. USC 2003-2005: 2 NCs and three Heismans; 34 game win streak
5. Alabama 2009-2012: 3NCs
6. LSU 2003-2007: 2 NCs, though 2007 was 2-loss title

2 titles in 14 years =/= dynasty

Nebraska 95 or Bama 11. Who wins?
Posted on 12/17/13 at 10:02 am to Majin Buu
But 3 does? I don't understand that logic.

3/4 has ALWAYS been a dynasty. You (not surprisingly) hold Alabama to a different standard.

Nebraska wins, easily.
Miami 2K beats them as well
Even had LSU beaten Bama in MNC, still think the
above are the best.
IMO Tom Osborne was the greatest modern day football coach in history. And that includes Bear, who he beat bloody quite a few times in bowls, and Saban, who idolized him.

In 2007, LSU only beat 3 teams that finished the regular season ranked: Virginia Tech, Florida, and Tennessee. Tennessee was not a good team. The Big 10 was weak; Ohio State was the only team that finished the season with fewer than 4 losses.
quote:
again, focusing on only one aspect of lsu's resume to the exclusion of other aspects
Again, you only beat 2 good teams just like 2012 Alabama. The difference is that Alabama lost to a team that finished in the Top 5, while LSU lost to two teams that finished the season unranked.
quote:
this is of course a ludicrous statement. bama needed all kinds of help, it just didn't happen in one week.
Yeah, Alabama needed help from the voters just like LSU, but the voters do take what happened on the field across the landscape into consideration. In 2011, Alabama fell from #2 to #3. Hence, they only needed #2 to lose to get back into the title game. Throw in Oregon too. Oregon lost to U.S.C., and I'm not sure they would have gotten the nod over Alabama considering LSU owned them in the season opener.
In 2012, Alabama fell from #1 to #4. Stanford had a controversial loss to Notre Dame, but they slowed the mighty Ducks down and won the PAC 12. Notre Dame had a few controversial call go their way and were ranked #4 in the BCS before Alabama lost to Texas A&M. Kansas State was exposed by Baylor, and Oregon finished the job in the Fiesta Bowl. Additionally, Kansas State and Oregon were originally schedule to meetup in 2012, but the game was cancelled. Alabama tends to have slow starts or average play after bye weeks and the LSU game. Alabama was clearly unprepared for the Texas A&M game following an emotional, come from behind win against LSU in a game where the Tide's spirits and title hopes were seemingly dashed. After Texas A&M's explosive 1st quarter, they had little scoring success for the remainder of the game. I'd put the loss on AJ's shoulders. After all, he was the one crying after leading his team down the field to beat LSU on Alabama's last possession. AJ was the one that underthrew two deep balls in the 4th quarter that resulted in 7 Texas A&M points and took 6-14 Alabama points off the board. AJ McCarron was the one that picked off 2 (3*) times by the Texas A&M secondary.
quote:
no more than any team needs in any season. like the losses in the last week are somehow illegitimate or make lsu less of a good team.
BS! I just showed you that Alabama only needed 2 teams to lose to make it to the national championship in 2011 and 2012.
LSU was #4 in the 1st BCS standings. 3 weeks later, LSU was #2 after South Florida and Boston College lost. So far, that's 2 losses LSU needed to get into the Top 2.LSU fell from #1 to #7 when they lost to Arkansas. Losses by Missouri and West Virginia and a win over Tennessee vaulted LSU into the #2 spot. That's 4 losses that LSU needed to secure a spot in the BCS National Championship.LSU had an unimpressive performance vs a Tennessee team that was worse than their record indicated. I guess the computers helped LSU beat Oklahoma in the standings. Needless to say, LSU needed more help than Alabama did during Alabama's run. 2007 LSU is the only team that got the benefit of losing two games to unranked competition and only beating 3 ranked teams to get a spot in the BCSNCG. 2007 LSU only dominated Virginia Tech. The games versus Florida and Tennessee could have gone either way. 2007 LSU struggled versus average teams. A team that struggles against half their schedule isn't impressive. Who did LSU struggle against? Florida, Kentucky (L), Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas (L), and Tennessee. That's 6 out of the 13 teams LSU played during the regular season.

Upvotes. I couldn't agree more. You were on point. Preach RandySavage preach. LSU fans hold onto the 2007 season because that's the only national championship winning season LSU has had since 2003. LSU fans like to mention their double digit win seasons, SEC Championship wins, etc. since 2000, but they don't want to admit that 2007 was a lucky season for Miles and that 2011 LSU was an exceptional team rather than something the fans should expect to see again soon.
I'm throwing out the 2011 season since it was exceptional in many ways and mired into much controversy. Since 2003, LSU has won two national championships legitimately. Since 2009, Alabama had won 2 national championships "legitimately". Alabama still has 6 more seasons to outdo LSU's accomplishments from 2003-2010, 2012-2013. Again, I'm throwing out the 2011 season since many will never agree over multiple aspects of that season.

That was "the GREAT LES MILES'" second best season. Only unreasonable fans would expect 2007's fortune or 2011's dominance to happen again soon. I like the LSU fans that can see through the 2007 and 2011 seasons to see what kind of program Les Miles is really running. He may win another national championship, but they'll be on the "4-year pattern". Alabama is in the position to win them annually and doesn't lose to the teams they should beat.

My mistake on the record. But who cares, Osborne and Nebraska were better.
