Penn State is not a better job than Alabama, especially following the scandal. And he's had his fill of the NFL and is never going back there. If he doesn't leave for UT this year then he's at Bama for the duration.

to be fair: nobody reasonably thought he was leaving for Penn State, and there's way more smoke here than Browns and Cowboys had

I'd go as far to say that there's at least some serious behind-the-scenes discussion. Even if Saban doesn't leave, you'd be foolish to believe he didn't consider it.

Look - like it or not, Texas can buy and sell Alabama (Louisiana, too, for that matter) - for every PB, Jr. or Yellawood, they have a SUBDIVISION full of billionaires in Dallas and Austin - and that's just the Longhorn fans.

Again - while this might not be solely about the money, the money is a big part of it. A huge part of the motivation for Sexton and Saban is to get absolutely THE highest rate of pay possible. I wouldn't have a problem with that part of it, but the methods they use are - distasteful.

FIFY.
I guess Harbaugh and Carroll really ARE better Coaches. Maybe Chip Kelly, too.

Every time saban has stayed put it has also gone down like this. The lsu fans love to cite the 2 times he's left for a better opportunity, but ignore that last 6 years where he's stayed put with an offer from a "better opportunity"

Like the man has said, "I'm too damn old to start over"

Penn State was a shite show when that job opened. Saban isn't stupid and I'm pretty sure he's just done with the NFL. This is the first legit opening with his name tied to it that could make him take a serious look.

Again, this has been mentioned over and over before but it obviously needs to be revisited.

If you think his decision is going to come down to money then I can't help you. If Texas wants to offer 10 million a year, bama can match that without batting an eye. If they want to offer 15 million a year, bama can match that without batting an eye. If they want to offer 20 million a year, then Bill Battle will pack his shite up for him and tell him to hit the road. But Texas isn't going to offer him that. Any resonable or outlandish offer Alabama can match.

Texas may have ten times the money as Alabama, that doesn't mean they're going to throw it all at Saban. I don't think a lot of you are able to comprehend that.

I just want him to bolt because of BAMA fans overall attitude. The meltdown would be glorious.

Honestly Funky, a part of me hopes he stays. The LSU/Bama game has been incredibly fun since he's been around. We've been on the losing end the last 3 times, sure, but it's always fun.

Orangebloods article confirming a meeting with mack brown, bill powers, and steve patterson next week

bunch of stuff we already know about the Saban rumors in the article, but they also give a much lower number than most estimates I've seen ($7 million) which I suspect Bama will easily match.

edit: this post wasn't a response to your "Mack Brown is employed" comment. It was just a newly posted article that I thought should get some attention as it's probably the most reputable source pointing to Mack Brown's departure, and I responded to your comment because it was the last one in the thread.

Of course not - it's not about the "money", only - Saban likes people bidding for his services, though - and Sexton, who definitely has the most influence in his life, DEFINITELY likes it. And ultimately, this may be all about getting Bama to show the love, to keep her man at home rather than running off with the floozie in Burnt Orange (or whatever that color is).

But, Austin would be an upgrade from Tuscaloosa, particularly for the politically liberal Sabans, and there is no Ghost of Bear Bryant in Austin - Darrel Royal just doesn't have the gravitas of Bear Bryant - ghostly though he may be at the moment.

Plus, there is that draw - win a championship at a 3rd big league school - something that may very well last forever.

It just may be too much for him to say no - that's all I'm saying.

This is reasonable. Nobody is going to offer $12-15 mil for a college corch.

I see this sentiment repeated a good bit. No offense, but I don't think you, or anyone here, knows this to be true or not.

Well..I probably phrased that wrong. Whether or not bama would be willing to offer that I do not know. Whether or not they could come up with that if they were willing I do know. They could
