I've changed my tune, thanks to a thread on the Score Board.
Duke and Sparty winning is just as likely as a tipped Hail Mary and a 109 yard FG return for a TD.

I have not clicked the link to the Scoreboard or the SEC Rant and probably won't till after Christmas.

Outside of the LSU 2011 game and yesterday's game, they have been just fine.

but players dropping balls is different than a coach making the conscious decision to try and kick a 57 yard game winner with a guy that has kicked 2 fgs in his career, while putting a bunch of 275+ big boys out there to defend a possible return by a speedster CB.
I don't think anyone anticipated a 109-yard return for the game winning touchdown. No one could have seen that coming. No one.

bullshite. They damn sure should have seen it coming. You have to know that Auburn is going to expect that there's a good chance it would be short and that they would set up a return. If you think about it, it's probably a helluva lot easier to return for a TD than a punt. No gunners, no kick coverage, in addition to a kicker who's not a defender...and Griffith is no former LB...now you've also got a holder on the field who's not a defender. Your FG protection team probably isn't at all the same as your kick coverage team.

Also LSU did the same short field goal returned for a touchdown earlier this year. It's not like it was completely unheard of.

True. But how many times has it happened with no time remaining on the clock?

Did you see it coming? I sure as hell didn't see it coming. As soon as it was obvious he missed it the first thought that entered into mine and everyone else's heads was overtime. Never in a million years did I see him returning the ball 109 yards for a touchdown with zero time remaining in the game. You could say that Saban is paid all that money to anticipate that shite but it's really difficult to anticipate a scenario that has never happened before. I can't think of an instance in major college football history where an opposing team returned a missed field goal back for a TD to win the game.
It's a once in a generation type of play. Punt Bama Punt was my father's once in a generation play. Kick Bama Kick is now my generation's once in a generation play.

I see what you are saying, and I see what he is saying.
Saban definitely should have been prepared for that scenario. No matter if it was in the first half, or the end of the game, that is something that should have been covered by the coach. Gus sure was prepared for it.
But I wouldnt have guessed in a million years that that was how the game was going to end.
Truly mind blowing.

And who is to stay he wasn't? There was a kick returner in the end zone awaiting Griffith's field goal attempt. I'm pretty sure Saban would have told his players to be prepared to tackle the returner if Griffith came up short. The field goal unit fanned out...they just missed the tackle. That's not Saban's fault.

Well, having a bunch of 300 pounders out there tells me he wasnt very prepared.

Hell yes. As soon as I saw the Auburn guy catch it and head out of the endzone, I knew we were fricked. It rarely happens because teams rarely try to kick a FG a virtually impossible distance on the last play of the game. And I'll guaran-damn-tee you that if on Friday night you had asked Saban what Andre Cromartie is known for, he would have been able to tell you.

Not to mention an inexperienced FG kicker AND a punter.

same here. It was one of those, "we accidentally pulled the pin out of the grenade" type deals. I immediately realized we had a bunch of bigguns out there, and there was little chance for them to stop Davis.

The frick it isn't. They "fanned out"??? WTF??? Auburn set up a fricking wall down the left side just like they were returning a punt, except unlike a punt, we didn't have Landon Collins sprinting downfield as a gunner.

And our guys just stood there until Davis was basically already on a full sprint.

I would go back and watch the clip to see how many fricking yards the Auburn guy runs before the first white jersey comes into the picture, but I don't have the stomach for it. Case in point...who were the two Bama players who "missed" opportunities to tackle him? Brian Vogler and Cody Mandell. That tells you all you need to know about that cluster frick of a play. And again...not one bit of what happened on that play is the players' fault.

Again...exactly what you would expect a $5,000,000 coach to anticipate. Eleven white shirts watching to see if the kick was good. Ten blue shirts expecting that it wasn't and setting up the return. One blue shirt that knew immediately that it was short and into a full gallop before we could react.

Tell me...do we have two different field goal units? One with fat people and another with smaller people?

I think the point he is making is kicking a 57 yard field goal wasn't the best idea.
