I was fine with letting the country go into default, then maybe our elected officials would quit mortgaging our future and actually start acting responsibly. Not going to happen though, until there is a huge shift in the country, and that is likely not to happen in my lifetime.
Way too many like giving and receiving entitlements that are undeserved and unnecessary.

While I agree with 99% of what you said, the US budget does not operate in the same way a personal credit card works.

You're right our budget is apparently made up of imaginary sums of unending money

Such as tax breaks for high earners and corporate entities.

That way a Democrat can win easily?
I hope the Republicans quit nominating a spineless establishment moderate.

If folks want moderate R's, it'd be the same thing. Moderate R's and D's are the same and there's really no difference in their political outlooks. The Senate deal had bribes for a payoff to Mitch McConnell in it, bloating Gov't and being fiscally irresponsible.
A lot are blasting the Tea party for being unreasonable and unyielding, and fail to see the unreasonable and unyielding positions taken by the D's and Obama. It's not Congress' job to be a rubberstamp for the Executive Office and it's yet another reason the country is worse off.

I think it's going to be a long time before we have another republican in the WH

My generation is going to have to work until we're dead. Except for the ones who are fortunate enough to become high earners. It's a shame that we are kicking the can down the road and creating more and more financial issues for future generations.
But, IMO, the Tea Party is too damn extreme. The only way the Republicans are EVER going to get the WH back is to have a candidate who is socially liberal and economically conservative.

I am curious if we will have a 4th party come about in the next 5-10 years.
Libertarians, Democrats, Republicans, and Tea Party members.

The debt to GDP ratio has been going down since the post-2008 spike caused by the recession. Further, the growth of federal spending has slowed since Obama took office. It exploded under Bush, especially in his last 2 years in office.
To say the debt is simply because of all the "entitlement" programs is comically short sighted. It's caused by a lot of factors, including paying for 2 wars and the Bush tax cuts, which yes Obama extended. It's a bipartisan problem, if you even want to call it a problem, but the Tea Party is too busy demonizing the less fortunate on welfare to see the forest for the trees.

While you're being sarcastic, there is some truth to this statement. Unfortunately, the issues that arise from the deficit are as real as it gets.

If the left gets its way on immigration, and they will because Boehner and McConnell are both worthless pieces of shite, the Republican party will never win another election period.

If there is, it won't be one that is Conservative. There has been too big a shift, imo, nationally to a socialist movement and expectation of Gov't support. As I said, too many generations of people have grown up on the teat of working people. The only way it's going to get better, is hitting rock bottom first. You'd think after seeing the failures of socialism and communism, it wouldn't be repeated, but here we go.

This is correct. I had an Econ professor debunk the entire "family budget" thing that was spreading like the plague through facebook and twitter.

Bush's last 2 years in office are to blame for much of the issues we face today. It's unfortunate, and I feel idiotic for voting for him...twice.

Correct. While there are MANY who abuse the system, there are also many who genuinely need it. But it is now being portrayed as the only people who use welfare, foodstamps, etc.. are African Americans who sit at home all day popping out babies and playing on their Obamaphone. This is not the case in all cases and it's a shame that the Tea Party has managed to shift the conservative mindset to this line of thinking.

I stated first that they are probably both equally bad.
Then I stated my opinion which was different from what I stated as what is probably true.

I may disagree with you on who falls in the category of less fortunate, but I think most people feel a moral obligation to help those that are actually in need. I just don't feel that it is the responsibility of the government.

Ok.
FWIW, I don't get folks blaming Bush for things. His policies were doubled down on by Obama, who you love. Bush, I think meant well, but I disagreed with a lot of his policies. He took many progressive positions and Gov't did expand under him, much of it bad. Like the Patriot Act.

It's more than doubled. Under Obama. While he had complete control of the House and the Senate.

I didn't say all debt, but it's by far the largest portion of it. What I said is that the decay of this country is because of so many entitlement programs and generations of people living on them as a lifestyle, instead of temporary help. Take the EBT card failure last week and the massive theft because of it. Hell, we advertise in Mexico, telling them how to come up here to sign up for free programs.

The country is worse off, because long standing failed policies of Democrats are catching up. Generations of families live a welfare lifestyle, a large portion of the populace expect the Gov't to provide for them and the policies of the left has allowed a massive amount of Americans to go and remain uneducated.
When such a large portion of America is poor, uneducated and catered to and promised things by the left, you have the debt where it is, crime where it is, unemployment where it is. Think about what just happened, again. We borrowed more money, to pay for things we can't afford, and in the process, increased spending another 3 billion dollars. Would you max out all your cards, go get a high interest loan to pay on them, get a new credit card and buy more stuff, without cutting nonessential items out of your life?
