Yeah, the more I hear the more I think he should just punish them for not taking the assignment seriously with physical punishment/training on how to behave in public. Everything was blown out of proportion, but I think Freeze can still use it to teach these young kids that they will be held to a higher standard.

Maybe you should have been in the play seeing how butthurt you are about it.

and there would really be nothing to it if the DM wasnt a bunch a Grade-A Deeshbags.
Sidenote - My boy who went to LSU and now writes for their 247 site told me back in 2007 that Perriloux, when told to be quiet by a professor, said "shut the frick up bitch" and nothing happened at all, the prof just backed down.
Point being athletes act up in classes fairly often but the school's newspaper doesnt always run with it like in this case.
Furthermore, I am by no means overlooking our players acting like dumbasses - they were without question outa line. Just wish our own student newspaper wouldnt put stuff in print that is ultimately going to hurt us all.

Pat Forde seems to think there is something to the story and has a similar opinion to me.
Forde calls out Freeze

OK, Hugh Freeze. Time to lead.
Lead your football players at Mississippi out of ignorance and into understanding. Lead your young men toward accountability. Show that the remarkably, distressingly resilient track record for intolerance at Ole Miss can be changed for the better.
Because if ever a situation cries out for a coach to set the tone of team behavior, and to firmly establish what is acceptable and unacceptable, it's the situation at Ole Miss today. This is no time for soft-peddling it. There is a reputation at stake for a team, a university and a state.

Pat Forde?
Really?

Not a fan of Forde, what about Clay Travis a very solid writer who follows the SEC closely.
Travis feels OM needs to Punish players involved

Let's get right to the point here — Ole Miss has to suspend every single football player who they find was involved in allegedly hurling gay slurs during a campus play Tuesday night about Matthew Shepard's murder.
I love the South, it's my home and always will be my home, but I hate ignorance much more than I love the South.
And we have way too much ignorance down here, always have.
Ole Miss has to take a stand against ignorance of all kinds and suspend whatever football players are found to be involved. The school also needs a major wake-up call. I'd suggest a campus-wide examination of gay rights.
And if Ole Miss won't suspend these players, then the SEC needs to do it.

We'll suspend them 2 quarters against Idaho.

I'm just now jumping in this thread but has anyone told Bundy that there weren't any racial slurs said, just laughter? You want to suspend 20 players for laughing at a play? Do the other students get punished for laughing or just the 18 year old football players?
Posted on 10/4/13 at 2:44 pm to Al Bundy Bulldog
If a football player can be proven to have yelled a racial slur during the play, punishment is warranted. Otherwise, it's time to kill this story with fire.

so you think these writers have more facts than the coaches and admins do?
I'd love to know all the research they did. They have lots of new quotes.

And someone correct me on this because I'm sure I'm wrong but why are football players held to a higher standard than everyone else? I cant count the number of times a state fan on a message board has called OM fans gay and figs for knowing how to tie a bow tie or simply wearing red pants. What about all the negative things state fans say about Shep Smith because of his lifestyle? I understand y'all are just trolling because you're obsessed with big bro but do y'all ever sit back and realize how hypocritical you all are or just flame in ignorance?

The paper who wrote the story do not even have sources, yet a sports outlet hundreds of miles away has the scoop

How many times have you touched yourself to Pat Forde and Clay Travis today?

I agree with this. Just like Travis said this should be a teaching moment for Freeze and the young players.

Athletes are held to a higher standard in case you weren't aware. They are representatives of their universities. Plus they are on athletic scholarships by their universities that can be revoked.

Every student is a representative of their university so that doesn't matter in this case but you are right, they are on atheltic scholarships. So are you saying that the university should find out everyone who attended and punish all the ones who are on scholarships, academic, athletic, etc? It still doesn't change the fact that people who call people fig on message boards are saying that OM and their players are hateful monsters because they laughed at a play.
Please explain how you punish someone for something that there is zero proof of them doing? If someone wants to come out and say blah blah blah yelled fig, then I agree, punish that person. But no one has done that. All that was said was there were 20 football players at the event and they were laughing along with the crowd. Until something else is proven, this is completel utter bullshite started by a student editor who made a mistake

These kids are here to play football. Bottom line. If they weren't amazing athletes then the vast majority wouldn't be here. I wish they had used better judgement but at the end of the day I don't really care.
