Truth be told, this is one reason I've always thought Texas didn't get better coaches. It takes a certain type of coach that's willing to deal with the Texas mentality, both the good parts of it and the bad. At some point, all of the lists that people make about the attractiveness of a job (that mostly focus on recruiting potential and money offered) seem to overlook the fact that there are other programs that offer less on the surface that seem to attract better coaches.

You could have said the same thing about Alabama before Saban got there.

Depends on when you were born. Maybe if you grew up in the post Bryant-era, you could say that... and I'd be willing to bet money that after Saban goes, if there isn't a strong person, there will be a vacuum of power until the next good fit. But if you look at the LONG history of Alabama, you will see that Wallace Wade and Frank Thomas were both at the pinnacle of their careers when they chose Alabama. Bryant was a direct reaction to Ears Wentworth, and he is objectively one of the best coaches in the history of the sport. Now you have Saban, and if he stays on the same trajectory, you can say the same.

On the other side of that coin, you have a school that has so many more resources than most other schools, and by most standards, Mack Brown was the best coach since Darrel Royal.
