ESPN's coverage of the CWS has played a huge role in college baseball's increasing popularity. While the NCAA & Omaha does have a long term contract, ESPN is a major player, don't kid yourself. All they have to say is that they are no longer interested in covering 2-1 games over a 2 wk period & both the city & the NCAA will roll over. ESPN is like the Federal Govt that way: you take Federal dollars, you give up some control to the government. ESPN threatens to pull their coverage & shite will happen. This is one reason I am not jumping up & down over the SEC's tv contract with ESPN. They give the league a lot of money & will have a lot to say bout everything in the league in return.

Keenly aware of ESPN's role in all of this and I understand that ESPN could pass on the next tv contract when it comes up. I just disagreed that ESPN could insist on a change in venue as the OP suggested.

Exactly. Thought I was the only one that wasn't that excited about the SEC/ESPN contract. We will all be professing our love for gheys and Yankees because ESPN said we have to.
