Sure, and if the batting team is good, they can punish those types of pitches through hits other than just home runs.

It was frustrating to see a player pole the heck out of the ball and still couldn't get it over the fence.

Some homers sure would have made the games more fun!

We're talking about squared up, solidly hit mistake pitches that would have been home runs anywhere else.

no, if the batter is good, he should be able to punish a mistake pitch with a home run or deep shot into the gaps. If the batter is like me, 5'6" and a buck thirty soaking wet he should punish those pitches with line drives to the outfield.
