UF. They were all opposed to AU moving to the east. Bama/UT was to preserve their rivaly.

I didn't think it was UF for some reason. I was thinking they wanted the AU/UF rivalry back, but you are probably right since AU in the East would mean more recruiting competition from AU.

As bad as we suck right now, I think the vote would be different today. Short term memories and all. 4 votes against it were needed to prevent it and there were 4 against and everyone else was for it.

Which makes sense.

If Auburn moved to the East, then Bama would have to choose which rivalry game to keep.

I guess you could move Vandy and Mizzou to the West and move Bama and Auburn to the East but that would be so horribly unbalanced it's not even funny.

Ultimately that's why the Big Six have to be split in half -- 3 in the West, 3 in the East. It works. Or at least it did before expansion.
