Just noticed on the Fayetteville Flyer website that Buster Belly's still does big mason jars for $3 on Tuesday nights (used to be $2 back in my day-damn inflation) and got me thinking of my favorite bars. Of course class years probably affect this but my favorite bars were Busters, George's and Mickey Finn's. I was there from 2000-2005.

I went to the Boom Boom Room a lot because they had half price nights on Tuesdays and Sundays.
You couldn't pay me to go there now.

JR's and My Pleasure AKA The Dome back in the early 90's. I hear that JR's is now a different kind if bar and I think My Pleasure is now a Mexican Resteraunt. Chester's, Rogers Rec, Zach's Place, and the Dart Room all get an Honorable Mention as well.

I forgot about the Dart Room - nice add!
I was there '94 to'97

My favorite bars in my college years were smaller bars, dives really, during the week, you speak of $2 mason jars psss there was places that had $2 pitchers.
Those were for "bro" time tho.
The cowboy had 75 cent longnecks on "ladies" night, wednesday nights, that started at like 6 and ended around 10, which meant you could go, get fricked up on the cheap, bag an "old" chick (in her 30s-40s) then get back in time to study for classes and polish off whatever beer was left over around the apartment.
Of course the weekend was different, when you put on the shirt that had a collar and buttons, nice pair of pants, you shaved, combed your hair, and was prepared to spend more than $50 on drinks and was looking for something "nice" when out.

Maxine's Tap Room hands down for me. Many a night spent drinking with friends, playing "Ding-ding" and listening to Ms. Max's stories.
Rest in Peace Ms. Maxine.

Great picture Lat!
Years after graduating and moving away I went back to an Alabama game in Fayetteville. I'd gotten to know Scott Hunter the ex Bama QB through some charity golf tournaments. Scott was a sportscaster for a Mobile TV station and was in town for the game. He was staying at the Hilton across the street from Maxines and my wife and I met him early that afternoon in the lobby. He had a few of the Bama radio guys with him and I offered to take them to Maxines. One of them happened to be nicknamed Snake. When we went in Maxine recognized him right off and needless to say it made her day. After a couple of pitchers I made a picture of Stabler and Maxine that I was told later was one of her prize possessions. As we were leaving she told him "Snake, you've always been on of my favorites, but we're going to beat the shite out of yall tonight".

Tables and Ale, old Roger's Rec, old Brewski's, Tim's on Mountain, Smoke and Barrel on weeknights
Tables has got to be my favorite though, by far.
edit: oh yeah how could I forget JR's. Can't tell you how many times I pissed in the alley that's right next door. Lots of my buddies have done more than number one in that alley.
Most of the time I went out there to piss just for the hell of it. They had a bathroom and it was rarely full. Sometimes you just want to hang the hog leg out in the open air.

Luckily for him and us he had a driver to get him to the stadium and back to the Hilton after the game.

I was partial to Mickey Finn's, too.

Mickey Finn's was great on Sunday nights.

2005-2009
Mickey Finn's Mondays were great. Other than that, I usually skipped around to a lot of different places before heading to Z or On the Rocks (now West End) at around 12:45 or 1:00. They were both horrible, but it was a target rich environment.
Also, I loved the old Crown Pub. We used to go there every Sunday to play the old Donkey Kong arcade machine. Bartender wouldn't give you drinks until you correctly answered random American History questions.

Boom Boom room, Ryleighs, King Fish, Georges, the green room, and billys were the places I frequented during college. After college I pretty much hang out at those places plus the dickson street social club and willy d's since it reopened.

quote:Ah shite I should be executed for forgetting to list Crown Pub. Jim is a cool guy, although a little creepy around the ladies. He'd come out drinking with me and some of my friends.

I vowed never to go into the new Dickson St Pub or whatever they're calling it now. Basically the owner forced Crown Pub out by refusing to renew his lease because he wanted the space for his own bar. It's fair, but it's kind of a dick move because he is pretty much riding the coattails of a successful business that someone else built.
