A new twist to our class is churning things up:

2014 DB prospect Chris Lammons (4* per Rivals, 90-grade 4* per 24/7Sports, 4* 85th in ESPN300, 4* per Scout.com) has always held USC as one of his favorites. Most "insider" thoughts had him joining friends Quincy Wilson and Ermon Lane at UF. Latest reports from Rivals and 24/7Sports however show Lammons is down now to USC and Tennessee, with USC being in the lead.

Lammons is scheduled to make his announcement Monday. USC was thought to be done with it's DB recruitment for the limited '14 class with Green, Smalls, and Harris Jr. If Lammons joins up, and with USC in outstanding position with 2015 DB studs Fitzpatrick, Fields, and Chalmers, the future at DB for the Gamecocks will simply be sick...

Interesting. I was one of the people that thought he was UF bound. I know he and Wilson came by for an unofficial before they went down to friday night lights south, but I didn't think we were in the picture.

I don't know how I feel about this... I don't think it would be a smart move to take another DB in this class at the expense of a RB, or another OL/DL/WR which would certainly have to happen. It would be different if it were a Humphrey, but this kid is not on that elite level. I'm sure he's great, and if A) he does commit (not a given) and B) the coaches take it, I'll get on board... probably.

Googer and Lammons announce today. I'm not 100% on either coming here, but on 247 we lead for both.

Googer announces on Friday the 16th...

It was only 4 days ago that the first news broke about Lammons committing to USC. To me, it was a pleasant surprise, as we had all 3 DBs we were initially after, and had really stopped following recruiting blurbs of DB prospects for this class and concentrating on the remaining needs we were after (Ford, Sawyer, Scott, Stanley, Googer).

Now in only 4 days it has swung madly from being 90+% in UF's favor, to mostly in USC's favor and UF being out of it, to right back to predominantly in UF's favor...

That doesn't happen naturally in recruiting IMO. The only thing I can discern from this nonsense was that Lammons was playing USC and faking his interest in order to hype up his announcement on ESPNU. Whether that was orchestrated by him or his family, or by ESPNU, or even by UF: who knows. But to me it's a big fat MEH for the 4-day idiocy....

Also a huge face-smack to all those online recruiting "insiders", especially the SC ones like Chris Carter of GCC or JC Shurbutt of TBS, who all had Lammons turning USC's way. It was their noise back on the 8th that got all of Gamecock Nation stirred up, when no one was really talking that much about Lammons any more. I wonder if those sites got some additional activity on their sites as a result, lol...

Geez, I just saw Lammons pick the Gators. I knew this was funky when he didn't come to our Black Magic and went to their camp instead and then he all the sudden wants to switch to us a couple of days before his announcement. It was orchestrated to get more hype and excitement around him and BigCockFan fell hook line and sinker for it.

I don't like cruits using USC to just build hype though. Oh well, let no jimmie go unrustled. Although, it's a little flattering b/c he knew we were a big time offer that would get a lot of attention.

It's a numbers game for sure. I am now wondering what we've got left. Waiting on Stanley, Googer, and who else?

Googer is supposed to be announcing this Friday, so we'll see soon enough. Sawyer is reportedly high on USC, and he hasn't even visited the school yet, although he's trying to plan it. He could announce before the season or sometime early....

Sawyer

Would be a nice pickup for sure. I wouldn't mind getting him on campus if we can.

Terry Googer, 4* ATH on Rivals, is a Gamecock!

https://rivals.yahoo.com/southcarolina/football/recruiting/player-Terry-Googer-140118

I really like these dual threat QB's (Davidson, Syvelle, Kenny) that we've recruited to be WR's for USC. Most of them know the importance of proper route running and usually can pickup the "whole offense" and where everyone is supposed to be a lot better.

Googer will be coached by Spurrier Jr. once he arrives on campus.

"I think he is a very good coach," Googer said. "He tells you the bad and he tells you the good. He told me where he wants me. They want to use me a lot around the goal-line and also in the slot."

Now that he is committed, Googer said he will turn into a recruiter for the Gamecocks.

"Oh, definitely," Googer said. "Number one on the board that I'm going to try to get is Dante Sawyer. I'm going to tell him to come play the rest of the Georgia boys and get this thing done. I think we have a good shot."

Donnell Stanley set to pick by the end of the month. Has been a USC lean for a long time.

Nation's #1 CB, Marlon Humphrey, has an official visit planned for USC, has us in his top 3 and will announce at the Under Armor AA game. With that said, I don't think he comes here, his dad played for bama and he lives there.

Just read that article on 247. Thought we were never really seriously in it, but the fact that the only for sure official his father knows about is USC is kinda nice to hear. I remember an interview he had from a ways back that talked very highly of Brown's coaching.

Yep, if we didn't have Grady and Ward, we wouldn't be in this at all. I still don't think we have a shot, but it's nice to get an official from a stud CB like this. His track stats are legit too.

Now Barrios is coming this weekend for an official? Weird. Thought we would be done at WR when Googer committed. Still think he goes Miami in the end, but makes you wonder.

With Sawyer, Stanley and Scott still out there, do we take four more to get to 17 or are one of them left out in the cold if we do land Barrios?
