How would you feel if Nick Saban talked about the Iron Bowl every week of the year as if it were the only game that mattered?
Does any coach do this about their own rivalry game?

I doubt any coach talks about any game except the next one coming up. Not real sure what the OP has in mind.

Did you know that Coach Bryant didn't even let his teams get SEC Championship rings in 1966 (when we went undefeated but lost the NC to 9-0-1 Notre Dame)? His words: we win and celebrate NATIONAL Championships here.
Who gives a shite what an admittedly great coach said half a century ago? The college football landscape has changed drastically sense then and the SEC championship is a HUGE deal. You focus on winning each game so that you can reach the SEC championship and play for the privilege of representing your school and conference in a BCS bowl.
Still, some games are more important than others. Just ask Bill Curry what happens when you don't beat Auburn. The Auburn and Tennessee games are important to alumni, faculty, current students, and sidewalkers in a way that the Miss St and Arkansas games are not. A coach better realize quickly that those games carry a bit more weight to the people that sign his check.

I was taking a nap and posted this thread before I woke up good. It really is a terrible thread. My apologies.

Sorry, but many teams claim NC's in years they lost their bowl game. Bama isn't the only one. Titles were awarded prior to the bowl.
Some even claim NC's in years they didn't even go to a bowl game because of paying players that were currently on the team like auburn in 1957.

We got 14 NCs. Throw 1941 out. The rest though are legit.

I laugh at anyone who says we only have 10. 1941 is not legit, the rest are.
If you don't like the titles in years that we lost the bowl game, I don't know what to tell you. Do you discount Super Bowl winners who had losing records in the offseason?

Definitely. Went 10-2, lost to eventual #1 Canes by 8 points and got canned. Course it worked out getting Stallings but still, damn. But I think it was his 3rd in a row to AU, if I remember right.

So, to put it shortly, we don't worry about one opponent, a western division title, or even an SEC Championship. We worry about National Championships. No one rival program is more than that
As an LSU fan, this is exactly how I feel. The whole rivalry thing is blown out of proportion. Every game matters exactly the same when you are trying to win a national championship.

Doesn't matter to me, just not part of the congregation, that's all.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

Ok. Since we now get to just pull things out of our arse regarding other teams, I don't recognize any championships for LSU. And by spanking LSU in the title game, this means we were obviously the best team so we are the SEC champs that year too. After all, the rules of the time don't matter, just what we choose to claim, right?
And Ole Miss has no national championships.
Oh, wait - that really IS true.

Yep. Just goes to show you winning an SEC championship doesn't keep you safe at Alabama. We want the crystal footballs or else as we have plenty of SEC titles to go around.

I thought it was more the AU deal than the bowl, but it's been a while back.

Losing to AU in the last game of the regular season kind of puts you out of the national championship race. We were #2 heading into the Iron Bowl and were #6 coming out. I don't think beating #2 Miami in the Sugar Bowl would have made any difference by that point.

Of course...61,64,65,73,78,79,92,09,11,12...I've never thought otherwise.
