Yes I liked the characters and the setting

Of Mice and Men is ok, but to try and elevate the Grapes of Wrath to any respectable level is absurd. The dictionary has a more compelling story.

I happened to be born in a year that turned out to be an anomaly for my hometown. We had about 30 kids go to universities, whereas the usual is 5-10. So I had a solid group of people with similar backgrounds and interests that I was around every day. We were more or less segregated from the rest of the school through honors programs, and rarely had to actually deal with the other students in a classroom setting. Had I been born a year before or a year after, my social life in HS would have sucked.

Of Mice and Men>Grapes of Wrath
No doubt in my mind. I had to skip ahead several times in GOW to make it through the book. I actually enjoyed Of Mice and Men.

In light of today's events, I also recall another author I absolutely hate-Jodi Picoult. I had to write a review of one of her books in high school and completely ripped everything about it. What a hypocritical count. Got an A on the paper too.

I'd also recommend the Rabbit series by John Updike(not related to Harvey)

GOW should have been as short as Of Mice and Men. It's horribly over-extended
Agreed. He took a story that would have fit in a novella and stretched it into a relatively long novel.

While we're on this, Sylvia Plath can rot for trying to compare her daddy issues to the Holocaust.

I also really liked these as some interesting page turner type books. But I am a major history nerd, soooooo....

I'm just going to be honest here, and it's going to sound sexist as hell, but oh well-I don't generally care for female authors. Obviously that isn't always the case, hell I liked Frankenstein when no one else did. But overall it's rare that I read a book by a woman and like it.

I like Squidbillies. They should make Squidbillies books.

They are cool if you are into Napoleonic Wars history type stuff. He goes into a lot of detail about the tactics, battles, politics, etc.
