This. He told his players by phone, from Texas A&M. That is the part Bama fans had a problem with.

"Do we have to post the article by Terry Saban again?". We heard several quotes similar to this when she was here. Sorry to deflate that balloon as being meaningful.
Saban left an NFL job for Bama. He stated he's turned down NFL offers while at Bama. I'm confident he'll be here for year 7.

There's a big difference between being in your early 50's and being in your early 60's.
Probably close to 2020 I'd imagine.

So I wonder if this had happened with today's tech would Fran have texted, tweeted, emailed, skyped, or still called out from a plane?

I'd be ecstatic if he was here that long. His contract is through 2016 at the moment I believe. I hope for that.

It all depends on how Saban and his ego are getting along these days. \

Youtube vid no doubt. Would be right up his alley.

Cleveland has a small nice lil downtown part. But it sucks
It has everything you would want in a city. Booming downtown, biggest theater district between NY an Chi, world class museums, world class orchestra, major league sports teams, amazing suburbs and the public schools are top rate. The idea that Cleveland sucks is a long antiquated idea.

Probably would have tweeted the University and let them handled it. Guy made the most classless move ever handling the departure the way he did with his players.

The Brees' fasco was not his only mistake there by any means, even tho he threw the team physicians under the bus & blamed them.
Did you see my previous posts? He DID want Brees. The team doctors pronounced his shoulder irreparable. There was a huge debate period between he, Randy Mueller and Wayne Huizenga about if he was worth offering a big contract, and that's when the Saints swooped in.
Listen, I feel dirty defending Saban, but I've followed the Dolphins religiously and facts are facts.

My view about Alabama coaches is that Alabama has been fortunate enough to have at least 2 of the greatest college coaches of all time, and Wade and Thomas were certainly among the best coaches of their generation. We may have lean years, but there isn't any reason to think success stops with Saban.

Just think. If LSU would have gained 1 more yard for 1 more first down against Bama this year and any one of at least 3 Big 12/Pac 12 teams had not blown it last season then LSU would likely be going for back to back national championships against Notre Dame. That's gotta sting.
Great observation, but that actually doesn't sting at all. For all the clout Saban gets (much of it deserved) and for all the flack Miles gets, the disparity between the two isn't all that great. Let me explain before Bama fans get defensive.
Every national championship team, no matter how talented or well coached, needs some "luck" to get to the big game. Had Okie Lite not shite the bed against a much lesser team last year, Bama would not have been in the game (I'm not complaining because it's said and done, but it is fact) and LSU would have rolled Okie Light. This year, LSU was literally 1 yd away from making it to ATL against Bama. You can say what you want about Miles' call on that 4th and 1 play, but against Bama's D-Line, the result of that play truly was a coin flip -- that's a testament to Bama's D-line, not Miles' idiocy.
I was actually discussing this with a friend yesterday, that the past few years, LSU is literally only a few plays away from being where Bama is today. That doesn't sting at all. It's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Next year the "luck" may be on LSU's side; who knows?
I know both fan bases flame and troll a lot, but each really knows we are each other's biggest obstacle to the big dance every year, and it will remain that way for the immediate future.
Oh, and to keep my post thread-relevant: Saban would be STUPID to leave what he has at Bama.

I agree. CMR is doing fine, he's right at that edge and had a great chance this year. Texas would be the place. Mack Brown has accomplished as much as CLM but hasn't near the competition, and now isn't even a favorite for B12 CC. There is absolutely no reason Texas isn't doing better...save Mack brown.

Idk. Do you remember Tommy Tuberville leaving Ole Miss for Auburn? He left in the black of night without telling a soul.

Precisely. And the previous decade isn't so far behind, that we've forgotten what mistakes were made. It will be almost impossible for anyone to repeat the success that Bama had with Bear, and that Saban is currently having. But it won't be impossible to be a top ten team for the foreseeable future with the right hire, once his tenure is up. Bama has too rich a history, and too good a program, not to be and remain amongst the best, post-Saban.

Great post.
Part of why I love CFB.
I respect the hell out of Bama and Saban.
It's their delusional fan base that I can't stand.

Cleveland sucks. Just a few years aho its biggest export was Lebron James. It is going nowhere as a city.
Rust belt for the loss...
