9-0 would be nice, but 8-0 and then Alabama somehow losing to Notre Dame would make me chuckle, too.

Either way, all this season has convinced me of us that we are in need of an 8-team playoff.

Nah, just de-value it a little.

4 top conference champs and 4 wild cards would hardly de-value it.

Teams like LSU and A&M would still not be in under that format this year.

I like the idea of you have to go undefeated to guarantee get in. If you lose just 1 or 2 games, you may get in or you may not, but you have no right to complain.

BCS almost did that. Auburn '04 was the only team that ever got screwed. 4 will make it perfect because we will never have more than 4 major undefeated teams. Any teams with 1 or 2 losses that get in should just be thankful.

I just don't think scheduling is balanced. And that gives some teams huge advantages over others.

LSU has virtually no shot to go undefeated next year, because they are going to have to beat 4 pre-season top 10 teams to do it.

I think 2010 Alabama, though flawed more than any of Saban's teams from 2009-present, was the 2nd best team in the West, and maybe even the country.

Their schedule was brutal, though. Why should we just say, "tough shite, you lost too many games," even though other teams around the conference and the country didn't have to face as tough of a schedule.

I agree that a playoff is the best thing. 4-team playoff would be nice, but I don't think an 8-team playoff would hurt the regular season too much, especially if you're guaranteeing 3 of the spots to other conferences anyway.

by the logic you are using that would belong to the Premier League.

Everyone plays eachother and there is no championship game.

They just go by best record/points to crown the champ.

Well yeah. Premier League is by far the best regular season in sports.

Home and homes with everybody. Best record wins.

Not the case in the SEC. Why is Team A for sure better than Team B because Team A won an overtime game at home, or because Team A had an easier schedule?

It really doesn't make much sense. The college football regular season shouldn't be viewed as a playoff if scheduling is never balanced.

Not at all, in fact Alabama lost 4 games to bad teams and got in over all those undefeated teams.

Not sure how to respond to something so stupid. LSU was the only undefeated team. They played the best 1-loss team. Just like every other BCS season with only one undefeated team.

just weird to say it didn't matter. Alabama won its other 11 games. If they had lost just one (JUST ONE) of them, they would have been out. If Oklahoma State had won that one (JUST ONE) game that they lost, they would have been in.

How could it possibly matter more? It was literally a one-game difference, and I'm sorry that there were no other undefeated teams. What more do you want?

I just quoted it to see your response.

Of course the regular season mattered. It produces the title game match-up.

It was rendered irrelevant when we drew Bama for the NCG, imo.

Oregon should be playing ND in Miami...they are clearly the two best teams in the country using the eye test.

How? Bama only lost one game. Just one. There were no undefeated teams. If there had been or if Bama had lost multiple games, you would have a point.
