Probably sometime when i was born in Tuscaloosa and lived my life here with parents that were both Bama fans... you know, just the whole raised on crimson colored traditions since before i was born. (totally had to make crimson lower case before submitting)...
i AM a bandwagon fan for several NBA teams... and i ENJOY it that way, actually. i only care if they lose for about 10-30 minutes and then i don't care at all... hell, may not even watch half their games.
i get more relaxed "sports" fun out of watching NBA, but then again I grew up in the south where football is GOD/KING. hard to be a bandwagon fan down here.

100% no bullshite that's how it went down. Most of my sport allegiances are due to some random factor. Before the Super Bowl with the Niners and Bengals (the one with Montana's drive for the win) I asked my mom who she was for. She said the bengals because they were underdogs. Seven year old me picked the Niners and i have been a fan ever since.

I'd venture to guess a lot of people did after 21-0.

I mean it's crazy. They got their Bama licenses and flags and everything now. Funny stuff.
i've never understood this mentality... Bama fans aren't Bama fans unless they constantly have up to date car gear or shirts?
it's natural to buy less Bama stuff when bama isn't doing so well, if you're an Alabama fan. likewise, it is natural to buy new stuff when we start kicking arse again.
no one's enthusiasm for their team concerning their buying habits remain constant from the moment they're born until the moment they die.

When I bought my first can of Grizzly, back when I was seven. Momma made me go pick her up a single can of natural ice up at the fast n easy. I got up there and the woman at the counter had a Bama sweat shirt on when I asked her what was that she was putting in her mouth. She said Grizzly and I asked her if I could have some and she said sure. She let me but that can of dip that day when I was only seven and since then it has been ROLL TIDE!

An unfortunate side effect of success is the proliferation of bandwagon fans,,,,just look at the average NY Yankee or LA Laker fan.....Bama does have more than their fair share I will admit....this however is function of Bama being the one of the most succesful college football programs in history.....luckily LSU doesn't have this problem

Right. I live in Alabama, and I've never seen someone who wasn't a fan previously and suddenly decided to become one. That doesn't even make sense.

Im sure we picked up a few after embarassing LSU back in January

Are you going to seriously sit here and tell me you haven't noticed a bunch of "new" Bama fans? Seriously? You don't really believe that.

i disagree that we have a disproportionate amount of bandwagoners... in Alabama, you're either a Bama fan or a boog. i mean, there may be some people that don't watch -every- single snap in every game like most of us on here, but in all likelihood, i would wager a lot of money that this program has a higher percentage of actually loyal fans than most programs.
ANYONE picks up -some- noob fans or bandwagoners, but Bama's brand isn't like USC. unless you grew up down in the deep south, you probably don't have the romantic story of Bama football understood at all.
now, a school like Oregon or USC.... maybe Boise State, i'd wager there is a much higher portion of fakers.

What would they have been fans of before? It's not like there's a bunch of options in Alabama.
